S/S Braided Brake Lines

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

What is the difference between

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-MR2-AW11-1 ... 240%3A1318

And these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-MR2-AW11-H ... 240%3A1318

I will buy some as people have said they improve braking.

i have used goodrich and a friend the HEL ones. both seem to be well made.
the point of these is they dont expand under braking so more of the pressure is transmitted and the feel is better.

One is made by Goodrich and you pay extra for the colour braiding
TBH you cant go wrong with a braided brake line and your paying more for the name thatn the product.

HEL braided covers included. They have sliding covers now if its plastic laced internally on the sliding portion then good if not then bad.

Yep, I've heard both are good, I use goodridge personally.

As kev says, it improves feel and stops expansion of teh rubber ones, in combination with some decent pads and a fluid change, improve braking.

I bought HEL and - although I'm still to test them in anger - they seem great quality. Fit straight on.
I went with HEL as I'd read a few threads of people with problems where some goodrich sets didn't fit on their Mk1s, so figured I'd try out the HELs. They were spot on.

You do pay extra for different colours on both.

Go on, buy your '2 a Christmas pressie...

I had some issues with the fittment of my Goodrich lines, they needed a bit of fettling to fit in the bracket on the shock casing. I believe Goodrich have sorted the issue though.

Goodrich have two different hose fitments - one with a tapered nut and one without IIRC.

I've used Goodrich on 3 of our MK1's with no issues.

Watch out for some of the cheaper Goodridge ones. the hoses are stainless steel braided, but the fittings are just cadmium plated. I know I bought a set, quite disappointed when I got them :(
I didn't use them and sold them on. Bought a set of HELS coloured ones ones, all the fitting on them are stainless :thumleft:

Jimi can you post a pic of the difference as some of us wont be able to tell cadmium plating on sight.

I have found my brakes to be alot sharper and really responsive in comparison to previously.

Although they do make you lock up easier so be careful if your not used to them.

Cheers Jimi, I was leaning towards the HEL set anyway, due to the previous posts regarding fit.

However, if there was any doubt before then there certainly isn't anymore...HEL it is! :thumleft:

I've found out that they are zinc plated not cadmium as I thought, the fittings are a sort of yellow/gold colour.
According to the Goodridge fitting guide there are 2 numbers for the MK1
STY0004-4 Toyota MR2 MK1
STY0005-4 Toyota MR2/AW11 1985 - 1989
Add the material of the fittings required to the end of the part number
C = Stainless steel P = Zinc-plated mild steel

So zinc plated fittings would be STY0004-4P or STY0005-4P
and stainless would be STY0004-4C or STY0005-4C
Ebay (which is where I bought mine) sellers don't usually include the C or P at the end, so be careful what you are buying.

never been keen on goodridge as their bike ones cant be iffy, but hel have always been excellent quality although never tried the car ones!
on my mk1 i just have some custom ones of an unknow make off ebay and they work a treat, one of the best things you can do on a mk1 is overhaul the brakes imho!

on a side note anyone noticed the braided clutch hoses? cant see the point unless your standard one busts or am i missing something?
4agte on the way
