Insurance on a MR2 GT NA at 20!??

Post by Shane 16v »

I am fron N Ireland and was just looking to know would it be possible to get insurance on a UK MR2 GT 2.0 NA with bodykit and exhaust system at 20 with 1 year NCB!?

Also what isurance companies to try and what price roughly would it be if anyone has had any experience at insuring an MR2 at that age!

All help appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi mate,

im 19 and found the only place which was reasonable was through Yes car insurance, im under my dad mind.

Couldn't get a quote through any of the so called 'performance car, young driver' companies they all said no!

Also; i know people may protest, but the quote i got from comparethemeerkat and the like were the same give or take a few quid...

hth.

I got insured on my first MR2 the car I still have now (N/A import back then) when I was 20yrs old, it cost me £1200 a year

I had my mum as the named driver, the insurance company I used at the time (Bell Direct) told me thats the only way they could get me insurance as the computer system sees it as a couple (one over 25) therefore less risk.

Nobody else would touch me for less than £2500.

Do alot of ringing around and dont take the first decent offer use it a bargaining tool, also ask about putting a female relative (25+) on the policy see if it works for you.

There are some good companies that you can get a discount with if you are premium member, worth it for the £7.50 fee to become a premium member. :thumleft:

I was getting insured on group 17 cars around your age for about £800-£900 which I believe an MR2 NA is a group 17.

Admiral & Elephant always came in cheapest for me then.

Try moneysupermarket.com and whoever gives you the cheapest quote click on the company logo and do a quote with them from scratch as I've knocked about £50 off the moneysupermarket quote, done this a few times.

Also add a parent or someone old with no points etc. It'll only affect there policy if THEY crash the car not you as long as your the named driver.

One other tip is to try different job titles. I'm a carer and if I type that in as oppossed to support worker I save a little bit each time there as well.

Have you tried
http://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/

They insured me on my first MR2 when I was 19 for about half what all the others were quoting...... and paid out a reasonable sum when I crashed it :thumleft: :eye:

hve been getting online quotes and the range from about £2500 to £3500 which is quite steep!

I wouldbe happy enough with quotes at under £2000

Anyone got any other companies to try or other sugestions!?

I'd give elephant a try, I'm 19 with no NCB and it cost me around £1500 for a UK N/A.

Im paying 1100 with an accident under my dad with Yes car insurance as a gauge to prices, it can be done cheap just hunt around and say the right things,

Just insure yourself as a 60yr old doctor living in cornwall doing 100miles a year, might knock a few monies off?

im 21,

have no ncd,

been driving for three years

no points etc

£720 with direct line

fully comp on a rev 5 n/a

i think the 3 years helps a lot but have a blast, not sure if they cover NI, but they are ok with mods unless they make the car faster

You didn't insure that heavily modded car as an NA surely !!

Assuming this must be for a different car
