Connecting rear spoiler brake light

Post by KMK11 »

Am after some advice on wiring in a rear spoiler brake light...

presumably the wire feeds through the existing hole in the boot lid but where next? Along the ribs on the underside of the bootlid & then down by the hinges?? Do I just leave the wiring exposed here or is there another option??

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the connectors are already in situ and run off the passenger side rear light cluster, is this correct (the car is in Ireland at the mo, otherwise I'd just go & have a look!)??

Would really appreciate some pointers, please :thumleft:

Its a Mk1a BTW, dont know if that makes any difference? :?

Cheers :thumleft: :thumleft:

I used thin round (red coloured because my car is red) 4 core cable for mine, run as you described through the hole in the bootlid then down the rib on the passengers side, then drop it down to behind the boot bulkhead trim. You can get the idea from this picture, the black cable next to the bootlid spring is one I ran for my concealed number plate lights, I later added the spoiler light and combined both cables in one on the other side.

You can pick up a brake light connection from the cruise control connector that is in that corner of the boot. details here CLICKY
