Will not over boost, Please Help

Post by morley88 »

Hi, i have a rev 1 turbo and im having trouble getting it to boost over stock wich i believe is 10psi. Iv dun the the necessery mods, exhaust, filter, fuel cut etc, to safely raise the boost but its just having non of it. Iv got a Greddy EBC too. Iv even tried completely disconnected the actuator, wich i no is unsafe but stil only get 10psi. iv tried disconnecting the tvsv too but still no joy. this is my first mr2 so am still learning... Any help or suggestions would be great, thanks ](*,)

One sure fire way to check for boost production issues is to block the small pipe coming from the side of the turbo to the actuator. This will completely remove any boost control and will allow the boost to increase until something gives if you're not careful. If you still have problems hitting over 10psi, then it could be something else.

Sounds like either a serious boost leak, or your turbo is shagged if you are only getting 10psi with the actuator disconnected.

Make up some really soapy water and spray over all the boost pipes and intercooler, give it some revs and see if if you see any bubbles.

thanks very much for the replys, il already blocked off the pipes and that doesnt work... il try the soapy water to check for leaks but it seems to boost ok, and holds fine without dropping off. since i fit an aftermarket intercooler it seems to have a little more lag, but i suspect thats because of the bigger area having to be filled with air... any other ideas??? couldnt be weak actuator could it??
