Clutch Fluid Change Tips

Post by malcster »

Hi Guys,

I'm just about to undertake a full clutch fluid change as my pedal is sticking to the floor every so often. So, I was just had a couple of questions..

1. Where is the nipple? ( ) the clutch bleed nipple that is.

2. How much fluid will I need?

And also, if anyone had any other tips?

Cheers,

The bleed nipple is on the back of the gearbox on the slave cylinder.

If you look into the engine bay from the passenger side it is right on the back of the block near the middle. You will probably spot the rubber boot on the push rod which enters the engine. A bit of a b1tch to see.

With regards to amount of fluid, i dont think there is a set amount.

I just filled up the reservoir in the frunk and put my easy bleed on it! Well worth the little money they cost. (about a tennor from halfruads)

Quick tip...

When you put the easy bleed on and you are forcing the fluid through, press the clutch pedal in, as the fluid flows out faster. :thumleft:

It's at the back of the transmission on the clutch slave cylinder (also known as clutch release cylinder). There's a couple of bad pictures in the BGB. Follow the shifter cables to the tranny and you're pretty close.

Fairly little. One 500ml bottle is in theory enough, but I'd just get a bit more since you can buy cheapo brake fluid for this job. This also depends on how much air you have in the lines and whether you want to 'flush' the lines with brake fluid.

A brake bleeding system will make the job easier to do alone. Something like the eezibleed/vizibleed that halfrauds sells for example. You might want to immerse the bleeder system's valve in a container with brake fluid just in case.
