the motor has died probably...

it requires you to try to reach under and disconnect the push rod and you can lift it.. then change the whole component. you can get it from a scrappy/

There is a manual wind up dial behind the light under the front bonnet which you can use till you get a new motor

If the Motor has died then its died for a reason, have the hinges on the eyelid been oiled recently ? if not then this would put extra strain on the motor,. Oiling often gets overlooked due to the hinges being covered by the bonnet. Before i did mine last year they were really difficult to lift up and down by hand ( needed all my body weight to do it !! ), after a few squirts of WD40 and some working up & down by hand they were perfect and retracted a hell of a lot quicker, go check it out, it may save the other motor in time  , Jinxy

Ive had exactly the same problem for ages (very embarassing when you leave a nice restaurant and then have to stand out side with your head under the bonnet winding your headlight up but thats another story!)

anyway finally got toyota to have a quick look whilst she was in and they confirmed that the motor was dead. managed to get a pair of headlights with motors & control unit off ebay for twenty notes. hoping to change my drivers side light this weekend so ill let you know how i get on mate.
