Someone brought some sand blasted wheels into work for them to do and the blaster took about 0.5mm off the face of the alloy
(the guy at work popped one of the weights off the rim and you could see the amount took off) and it left the wheels full of dimples that would have took hours to sand out or fill, what a mess they looked when they were painted, the owner didnt care as it was just a Saxo that he was wanting rid of

Well they come sand/bead blasted from the factory, RBMotoring polished the front face of mine though- it's all solid alloy.
Perhaps there's a less harsh option, is bead blasting finer?
