Modified car owners

Post by paul port »

It's a regular question I know....
Insurance is due soon.... and I would like to generate a list of:
Jap Import / mod friendly insurance companies to contact with my requirements.....

I'm with Adrian Flux at the moment (Having left Dorset MR2DC last year) - I would appreciate a few names to put on the 'try' list.

Cheers,
Paul.

The number if import friendly companies drops all the time and it's been a while since I've run the ordeal of calling them (it was a joy to have a UK car for once!) but I updated my insurance page the last time around and tried to highlight the import friendly people:

I'm currently with Dorset but will be going with Adrian Flux later this month when the policy is due, is slightly more expensive but I'd rather pay more than use Dorset again.

its not always the modified bit that insurance companies are worried about, its the fact they are imports. :(

my g/friend phoned up her insurance company for a quote on an import RAV 4 (2.0L 3sfe engine) they wouldn't even consider it, even though its the same as the uk model

I'm with Adrian Flux .... they cover your mods too which is nice as these are often of significant value
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

It's just a shame they are rubbish when it comes to making a claim ;)

Maybe .. but I'd rather get insured for sensible money than crazy quotes from a lot of other companies :)

Cheers Chaps,

Basically I wanted to get a list together of the companies people are already insured with - saves the 'don't do imports' / 'don't do modified' response.

I used Performance Direct and they were the cheapest by far. I have a tarted up MK1. Custom paint job, TSW alloys, Magnex exhaust and a K&N filter, £234 though i did forget to mention the cams...ooops. Mind you i do get stung for putting the girlfriend on the policy as she's under 30.
They also insured my old man on a MK1 as a second car with no no-claims for £151 comp, when his normally cheap CO-OP insurer wanted over £500 TPFT.

Who say's it doesn't pay to shop around

Adrian Flux, only company that would quote me as engine swaps frighten all other companys away.

Including Dorset even if they are half way through a years policy, when they send you a letter cancelling your cover :(

Flux £1300 fully comp inc track cover 27yrs 1 yr NCB

Rev2 UK sunroof with rev2 turbo conversion, declared Split rims, coilovers & exhaust.
'02 VX220 2.2 n/a Daily driver - Exige Size TD 1.2 - TAT shorty Diffuser - HardTop - Chris Tullet 4-1 Manifold.

'97 mk1 Mazda Eunos Turbo track car with 260bhp/ton - soon more as Chris Wilsons going to build me an engine over the winter :o) .

Well NU Direct are out of the picture now:

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your email regarding obtain a quote for you car.

I have checked through your details and have to advise that we would
not be able to offer you insurance.

I notice that your car has a number of modifications both
performance and non performance enhancing, on our policy's we are unable to
insure a vehicle with more then 3 modifications.

I am sorry we can not be of any further assistance.

Many Thanks,

Tesco fella

I know everyone has thier own experience, but mine with Tescos wasnt good at all. Had to take legal action over a windscreen payment, would hate to think what they would be like on a large payout. Tesco just gave failed promises!
