Bit of a race me V motorbike

Post by BLOODUK »

Basically we was at the traffic lights ready to head onto the motorway
and we both pulled away, i had a bit of lag as i was kinda not taking
much notice of the lights he looked over to me and smiled.. maybe he was gay? but anyway we pulled away.

And i was shocked i actually cought up with him, he kept on looking in his
rear mirrors i then slowed down didnt want to break the speed limit in this heat... and he actually gave me thumbs up.

I was bloody shocked ever since i put the recirc back on, it damn well flies!

a 400 would still reach 60 in about 4sec's.

I used to have a 600 and it reached 120 in 12 sec! (Santa pod run what u brung day)

I doubt he was trying too hard, but appreciated having some acceleration fun.

I went for a drink a couple of months ago with a biker who was trying to follow me down the Cat & Fiddle. I was quite happily going to let him past but noticed that he wasn't really staying with me out of the corners. I wasn't going particularly mental or speeding, but bikes are always slow round corners. Think he was just surprised tbh. He caught me up at the lights and pointed me towards the nearest pub! Had a similar thing happen down bonnis hall lane, which is a really twisty road, same scenario really.

bikes are quick round corners, i remember the fzr1000 exup pulling the same lateral G as the porker 911 turbo. In fact I'm sure a evo was out turned by a sports bike (std) not so long ago

Bikes are much harder to ride anywhere near the limit that a car not to mention the fact that death / serious injury are easier to acheive on a bike. most bikers out there either cannot or don't ride round the corners at anything like the pace the bike can get round.

Still, its nice giving them a play and when they acknowledge its smiles all round

Its a difficult thread for me to reply to really this! It all depends on the rider/bike and driver/car. Any sports bike will kick most cars arses in a straight line easy! I had a Yamaha R6 and it pulled so hard the digial speedo couldnt always keep up  My Ducati 748 is actually hard to hold onto when its pinned

Most car drivers dont really drive very hard and its always a wake up call when one does. I was once over taking an audi (with a mate on the back)
into the entry of a tight but open right, left, right series of bends. He just didnt slow down as much as i thought so i had to stay in the wrong lane into the first turn then power around him and away.

The best part was looking across and seeing the concentration on his face mid corner

Still gave him a wave as i opened her up.

I always let a biker through while im driving though as i really dont want to knock someone off! I have been taken out twice by car drivers being dumb! The last one t-boned me and broke my right thigh so i know how much it hurts

Works both ways im afraid bud

I always wave or give a thumbs up to a driver for doing something good like pulling over in a line of traffic to allow me past! Its just a shame that for every driver who does that there is a co*ky tw*t who doesnt like the fact that bikes can move through traffic and pulls out to make it harder! ](*,)

I know what you mean about the speedo trying to keep up with the acceleration. I used to have a GSXR600 and i thought that really shifted!! (god knows how an R1/gsxr1000 goes  )

I've never quite gotten used to the speed difference of cars. It often feels like the rev dial on car goes up the same as speedo on bike.

In my experience most bikers are polite and give thanks for moves which help them get on with it. I know i did. It just made laugh when people drive halfway off the road to get out of the way!!?? #-o In my experience i dont meet many friendly car drivers going fast.

I found that on the bike i didnt have much trouble dispatching almost all the cars i met. Also there are not many roads out there that you dont encounter traffic and its much much easier to pass on the bike.

have to say there is no way the rider was really pushing it as my old 250cc bike would pull 60 in 3.7 seconds and go onto 120 in close to 11 seconds, now my 750 which has a mild tune will pull in 140 in a shade over 11 seconds (avon park race way with .8 second reaction(crap I know)) and I also have a 320ishbhp celica ST205 and there is no way thats anywhere as quick off th mark as the bike even once the turbo kicks in even with the 4wheel drive. That said I know for a fact I can out corner myself in the celica as on a tight corner locally I can only pull 95 on the bike(the corner is on a private road obviuosly) and 115 in the celica and about 90 in my MR2 SC. It is down to the rider driver thats for sure as I have had some tough races against big beemers and mercs before but the reality is a bike is usually 120-180bhp these days with only small frictional losses on the drive chain against a car weighing over 5 times its weight with perhaps 2-3x power the car aint gonna ever win on paper is it, but put a decent driver in a reasonable car he/she can do wonders. I think more people should be more polite to other drivers and aknowledge good skills and driving, once had a go with a merc up a private road resembling the M5 from exeter to weston and we stayed close for about 12 miles at an average of 150 he eventually gave up and gave me the thumbs up which was nice of him and his lovely looking passanger, little did he know the pain I was in holding on for that long at that speed, was so glad he backed off as I couldnt have gone on any longer and was about to give up when he did ! Once raced a R5GTT on some twisty private cotswold roads on my 250 and couldnt pass him at all over a 6 mile stretch and was amazed at his corner speeds especially in a front wheel drive car and it left me losing ground on the tight bends and then catch up on the exits and starights but not enough power to get past him, we pulled into town and I pulled along side him and give him a nod to say I was outpaced and much respect to the guy !

depends on the rider and the bike.
though interesting fact, the new gsx1000 k5 is the fastest vehicle upto 100 and back down again.
first time any bike has beaten the top car.
(and no, i do not know what car it was but apparently it held the record)
I am going to live forever, or die trying!
