Drive best not bloody go, it's only a year old. I gave the disc a clean up and so far seems ok. Seemed like an extreme reaction to a finger print of two.

I hate that, I have had the same thing, just a couple of minor fingermarks, barely visible, the same for dvd's in my pc too, even a bit of fluff seems to mess things up.
Slightly off topic but what I don't understand is, what is the point with discs anymore, be it DVD/HD or Blu Ray or even CD's, why all that bother with lasers and moving parts and stuff when a usb stick would do the trick and is a fraction of the size both in terms of the stick itself and whatever you need to plug it in to? :-k

not that much of an extreme reaction really when you think how small the data track, beam width are on blue ray and how Near the surface it is.

Fingerprint oils can eat into the plastic if not removed hence why it is really important to keep them clean

Well I'm glad the error is related to a dirty disc rather than fudged PS3 :thumleft:

It wasnt mine, it was from lovefilm. I used a JML disc cleaning kit. It didnt look all shiney after but the film did play without fuss after I used.

im guessing but its oribably to do with the obvious production costs and another reason i think is security.

data on a disc is stuck there (within reason). memory sticks can be hacked and edited.

shame tho cos it would be 100 x better that way.

Glad you got it going as my best mate's Ps3 went booby's up

The only person I know or heard of :-k

But even though it was out of warrenty Sony replaced his entire console with another 60 gig Which was brand new and sealed (they must have a stock somewhere :-k )

Seemingly they could tell from the error code that it was terminal they told him to wrap it up and post etc and they would send one he was only without a ps3 for 3 days :thumleft:

 he now has controllers coming out his ears as he only had to send the console back,

How long ago was this though?
I hear they can't replace like for like on the 60gb versions (that have PS2 backward compatibility) anymore.

But as you said, I thought they wouldn't have any due to 40 and 80 gig versions were already out etc but when he phoned them they told him they had a stock of 60 gig's just for this kind of thing :-k .

I would of thought that the mad thing to do etc but he showed me the box with factory seals etc still in place cause i was saying to him your gonna geta second hand jobby
