err,,,,if its goosed itl give the same
(or a very similiar reading) wether the car is running or not
.if the ccar is totally dead get it jump started and as said a meter across the terminals
,if ure not getting 13-14v its goosed
(the alternator that is
)(could b a fuse as well but thats another thing
)if its not charging check the fuse in the engine bay
(theres 3 fuses in the fuse box at the rear of the engine bay)theres an ecu fuse
(15a i think)and it wont let the system charge if the fuse is blown
.if the fuse checks out ok and ure still getting a low reading

jim55 wrote:all the electrical stuff you mentioned is down to the voltage in the battery not keeping up with demand.i had the very same
(dim lights/hazards,slow windows/wipers
)its all related to your alternator issue
,fix that

,all will b fine and dandy

yes,a broken wire on the alternator multiplug is a lot more common than failed alternators..
.you must check that first. If i had a quid for every mr2 owner thats gone out and bought a new alternator for no reason

Remove plug from alt, switch ignition on(with battery charged up) and measure the voltages at all 3 alternator plug pins, should be 12v or thereabouts on all three.
.
.
.
if one pin
(usually the black/yellow wire) only shows 1 or 2v or nothing at all then it has the usual mr2 wire break issue.
hope that helps.

I take it you have an alternator knocking about?
Checked the fuse all ok,i do have another
alternator that ive fitted
same result![]()

there's a common fault of a black/yellow wire that break from fuse box to alt which also feeds these parts.depending on where the break is, they will/won't work.
I had same problem few weeks ago.
Just ran a wire from fuse box
(engine bay) to alt
& everything works fine.
