Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Seems a tad extreme, personally id get it over to Pete as he's near Barnsley and see what he thinks before throwing the towel in May seem a tad extreme but I learnt my lesson years ago, don't throw good money after bad. It's a Yorkshire thing. Heart says love it and keep it, head says get rid. Time...

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Well I've finally decided. I sold my MR2 na which was totally reliable and then I bought this rust free (apart from a small patch on each sill) rev 1 turbo which has been brilliant when running well. However after paying out over £1k for metal hg, HSH and new parts for the ignition system, enough is...

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Is there anybody who lives near Barnsley/Wakefield on here who has a rev 1 turbo and would be willing to let me try their afm.
I will make it worth your while.
Thanks Rob

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Found a secondhand afm for £50, Peter, is it worth trying to clean my existing one first before buying an unknown? You can try cleaning (again). I wouldn't be buying an uknown. Buy or borrow one from a trusted source. Do you know of any trusted sources Peter? I will try taking the top off and clean...

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Thanks. The resistance readings were wrong when I first tested it but after moving the flat about a lot and spraying wd40 inside the electrical connectors it agreed with the bgb, however that's not to say there isn't a problem somewhere along the resistance track. I will try and source another unit....

Yes Peter, there is a lot of guessing going on and clutching at straws.
Would you be kind enough to give me some pointers please?

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Something I once remember reading, may have been a reply from you but I can't find the post or remember the exact details.
Something to do with the COR?

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
There is a fault code now 35, turbo pressure sensor. I can't see that this would cause the problem. After about 10 minutes, it sounds like it is not running on all cylinders before it dies. Has anyone had similar problems, I've heard that splicing into one of the ecu wires and earthing it can be a s...

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Thanks for your help. Do you know how to test the FPR and check if the injectors are leaking. It crossed my mind that the Cold Start Injector may be leaking. The bogging down and cutting out happens fairly suddenly when the temp gauge reaches about a 1/3rd and will not rev at this point. I have re t...

Re: Problems after car laid up for 5 months
Mr2 magic.

I would say over fuelling as the plugs were black and a smell of fuel out of the cylinders.

Problems after car laid up for 5 months
So after not using my rev1 Turbo for five months due to other commitments, I charged up the battery and it started first time and sounded healthy. Unfortunately after approx 10 mins it bogged down and eventually died. I checked plugs and they were black so I put in a spare set of plugs and checked f...

Had a similar problem for no apparent reason.
Disconnected and reconnected battery and it was OK again.

Re: rev 1 turbo problems with cooling system
No signs of leaks from heater pipes that run above fuel tank.
I guess a compression test will show a pressure loss if the combustion gases are leaking into the cooling system.
Is this correct and what should be the pressure for the cylinders?

Re: rev 1 turbo problems with cooling system
Yes thanks, I've checked this, I put a new one on it not so long ago and have checked it today with a known good one that had no problems on a n/a.
Both 0.9 bar.

Thanks, will do.
There are no under trays on the car so will be easy to check.

Re: rev 1 turbo problems with cooling system
Thanks Bob,
Track day is off then.
Had similar problems on the track last year and then the HFH started leaking so thought this was the problem.
Could the leak from the head gasket cause this to fail?
