Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Can anyone help me identify this smoking issue?? VIDEO
Bob has kindly offered to take the turbo and rebuild it under warranty. When I took the turbo off I noticed the was very little soot around the exhaust turbine, wastegate and top of downpipe. So I've got spark plugs suggesting its running lean, no soot in the exhaust system nearest the turbo but ver...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Can anyone help me identify this smoking issue?? VIDEO
So... reviving this thread with an update. I got the turbo back from Bob around September/October last year. I got it all hooked back up around november and started the engine no problem. I figured whilst I had the car off the road I'd investigate some bubbling on the sills. I unearthed an absolute ...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Front Fogs blowing fuses!
I've my mr2 a while, and I bought it as it is, with a non standard front bumper and no front fogs... I finally got round to buying some aftermarket fogs (Raybrigs) and mounting them to the front. I fished out the standard fog light plugs from behind the bumper and (as the fogs I bought already had m...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Dismantling power steering rack
Yea I managed to take it apart. As soon as I pulled the rack out I noticed the spring that holds the drivers side seal snug against the rack was just loosely dangling on the rack shaft! and it was damaged. I guess when it was built not enough care was taken fitting the rack through the seal!

[Mk2] [Turbo] Dismantling power steering rack
I had a reconditioned rack fit a couple years ago. Unfortunately it only had a 12 month warranty. I've had the car off the road for nearly a year now and noticed a bit of a wet patch under the front. Investigating I saw that oil (power steering fluid) was leaking from the inner end of the boot on th...

Re: REV3 tbar NA BREAKING
Do you have the front sidelight/indicator clusters? are they genuine toyota ones? and would you be willing to split them and just sell the left reflector. The clips are broken off mine:

[Mk2] [Turbo] What oil for my 3SGTE??
Sorry if this has been discussed widely. I'm sure it has but I can't seem to find much decent discussion on it... What oil would people recommend for my rev3 turbo. It won't get used much (less than 2000 miles a year probably), should this affect my choice? I'm happy to change it twice a year but I'...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Can anyone help me identify this smoking issue?? VIDEO
Creep comes from not being able to expel exhaust gasses from the wategate quick enough . Yea and the wastegate is needed to expel some of the high pressure exhaust gases upstream of the turbine. Obviously if the wastegate can't cope with the gases then that pressure is allowed to build and continue...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Can anyone help me identify this smoking issue?? VIDEO
so am i right to think a 10 bladed turbine will only help eliminate creep? if so then just stick one of those on. I have a Berk downpipe I think it has plenty of room for the arm to open further... hard to say for sure though. Could you PM me with some rough idea and breakdown of costs of everything

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Can anyone help me identify this smoking issue?? VIDEO
I got confused myself cos I didn't look at who was posting. I thought it was bob saying my comp wheel looked lost! Whats the plan then bob? what parts need replacing? Can you get hold of an identical turbine wheel? would you recommend clipping it? and can you port the wastegate without too much trou...

how do you mean? bigger than the one i already got? I thought it fit snug in the inlet?? and i was under the impression that if anything it was too big for the existing turbine...?

bobhatton wrote:The turbine is the same as a steel replacment but the comp wheel is bigger as can be seen in this photo with the comp housing fitted on a stock wheel.
But all stock turbines i've seen only have 10 blades...
Is the compressor in good enough condition to re use?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Can anyone help me identify this smoking issue?? VIDEO
I had bad creep issues with mine. Had to fit a restrictor ring at bottom of downpipe which did fix the issue. Would be nice to not need that once I get the turbo sorted. Should I be looking at a different/clipped turbine or porting the wastegate or both??

Re: Turbo Technics Rebuild/Upgrade thoughts?
P.s. that turbine isn't ceramic either.....with damage like that a ceramic wheel would tend to shatter. That's what I thought to be honest. What could it be then cos it isn't magnetic...? Another thing to note is that all toyota turbines i have seen all have a 10 point head cast into them, yours ha...
