Re: [Mk2] [NA] Alternator supplier

Hi,

Thanks for the info. That option sounds good although I'd need to get it there somehow. Also the car is already at my usual mechanic's garage, disassembled and ready for the new unit.

I've seen a reconditioned unit on eBay for £140.

[Mk2] [NA] Alternator supplier

The alternator on my 1996 MK2 N/A has ceased up. :(

Does anyone know where I could pick up a replacement for a reasonable price?
My mechanic can source one for about £279 + VAT but that seems like an awful lot.

Thanks.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Hot brakes

Sounds like the calliper to me. I've had quite a few replacements over the years.
The last time mine stuck it freed itself by the time I got it to the garage.

Re: [All] [Generic] Battery

Consider one of those solar power trickle chargers off eBay for £12.
I've been using one for a while now as I don't drive my car during the week and it does the job. Best of all it doesn't cost anything to run. ;)

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Insurance. Calling all N/A members 30 years plus!

No point insuring your vehicle for what you'd like for it. They'll never pay that much as you've seen and it'll just increase the premium. Also you've got to take into account where you live. The stats on car crime can affect your premium big time and makes comparing with others difficult. I'm 33 an...

Re: SOLAR POWERED TRICKLE CHARGER MK1

I've just bought one from eBay too. It's the same one they sell in Maplin who were selling it for £10 just before Xmas but its back up to to £20 now. Anyhow, mine comes with two attachment options, one for the cigarette lighter socket and one with clips for direct battery connection which is what I'...

[Mk2] [NA] Refreshing a tired battery?

Is is possible to refresh a battery that has lost its Ooomph? Of course I know a battery can be recharged but is there anything else that can be done to revamp it like replacing the distilled water or something? I replaced my battery a while back but kept the old one as a spare. The other day I left...

Thanks

Thanks for all your effort in providing such a good reply.

I've just checked the Halfords site and seen there is some proper tape for the job like you said and not the stuff I bought off eBay last time ](*,)

I think I'll get that.

Cheers,

Matt

[Mk2] [NA] Fixing on the rear number plate

After having my car for about 8 years the rear number plate decided to work its way loose. It was only stuck on with double sided stick foam so I pulled it off, cleaned it all up and stuck it back on with some more sticky foam. Now I thought it was going to last another 5 years but that was last yea...

[Mk2] [NA] Leaking T-bar? This might help.

My T-bar has leaked on and off for a couple of years now and every now and then I'll lube up the rubber seals with some Autoglym Rubber & Vynl care. I went out in it the other night though and saw the passenger side dripping more heavily than I had seen it before, a big drip onto the seat every ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Uneven Inside Tyre Wear - Normal for standard MK2?

The answer seems to depend on who you talk to which just goes to show why I am a little confused about it. On the one hand I'd like even tyre wear as I'd get a bit more use from a set although 4 years is not bad. On the other hand I don't want to pay for realignment if the car is already set to how ...

[Mk2] [NA] Uneven Inside Tyre Wear - Normal for standard MK2?

I've done some searching and found a few posts relating to uneven tyre wear i.e. the insides wearing out long before the rest of the tyre. Most of the posts seem to relate to modified suspension etc. but I just want to know: Is it normal for an standard MK2 to wear the insides of the tyres more than...

Tyre Pressure

I've always run had my tyres at comparatively low pressures, 25 psi at the front and 30 psi at the back. I tried 30 psi at the front with 35 psi at the back for a couple of weeks once. The ride seemed more responsive and perkier but the increased vibrations through the car over every bump was consid...

I like them

I've never had any trouble with my Toyo tyres. I've had both the T1-S and T1-R breeds and found the grip to be great in the dry and wet. That is more than I could say for the Goodyear Eagle F1s I used to fit which have caused me to spin 180 on roundabouts twice in the past at very low speeds in the ...

How it is done

Well in case anyone wants to know the casing pops put quite easily.
Just get a very thin knife or screwdriver and ease it out from the bottom.

[Mk2] [NA] Need a new fog light button bulb - but where from?

I'm hoping one of you guys has been here before. I think the bulb in the switch for my MKII 's rear fog light has blown, the rest of it works fine. I've taken it apart and can see a very small bulb, not the sort of thing I would expect to find in Halfords. Take a look at the pics, the bulb is in the...

Which model alarm?

Which alarm unit is it, do you have a model number?

You say that your unlocking the driver's door, I presume with the key.
Don't you have a remote key fob to disable the alarm before you unlock the driver door?
