Hi, all! We sold our Mk1A last year for restoration to Mike Savery - but try as I might, I can't get in touch with him - even via the e-mail address he sent to us in a Christmas card last December! Does anyone in IMOC know Mike, and could possibly give him a prod? We'd love to know how the car's pro...
...And the last episode of the sorry saga: It's GONE... Yep - I worked a deal with a local "trader" to part-exchange the MR2 for a replacement 4X4 (as my poor old Daihatsu bit the tarmac in violent fashion!). I will say, though, that if you come across K442 RBK, it'll have a damaged engine...
Ooops! It's dark under that car...and maybe I was in too much of a hurry, eh?
Thanks for that , Ashman, and thanks also to 'abovetherim' for the info' on the squirty-nozzle fixings - all appreciated!
Just as an aside, the jets are there purely (at least by design) to cool the underside of the pistons, not to provide any additional lubrication. So, how do the big ends get lubricated? There isn't an oil-way inside the crankshaft that I could see, unless it's microscopic... All I could find in the...
Well - I've been there, got the MoT (YESSSSS!)...but also got a dud bottom end yet AGAIN!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! :pale: I just can't believe it - I got to the MoT centre, hard that horrible knocky-rattle and felt like the floor had opened up; all that hard work, for NOWT! Good thing is th...
My Rev 2 G-Ltd popped its clogs last June when its bottom-end let go, and has sulked on the drive until January this year, when I bought another member's spare engine and pulled out the defective one from the car - and let me tell you, it's a b1tch of a job!!! Due to one oddity & another (and a ...
Tis sussed, as of last Saturday - definitely a Rev 2: oil filter under zorst manifold, steel sump, shims on top of cam-follower buckets, everything else identical to my car's Rev 2 engine!
Mucho Gracias, Senors!!!
Interestingly. I've had a whole pile of e-mails from various sources on this subject, and a bunch from an Australian tuning company - the latter detailed a load of things about the differences, primarily: Rev 2... has pressed steel sump, oil filter tucked under exhaust manifold, cam-follower shims o...
Aaaaargh! Why, oh, why did Toyota make so many variations on the 3S-GE????? The lump I've bought may not be a Rev 3 after all, according to a spec-list I've read from a Tuning Company down-under - too many diffrences to the one I've got here (alloy sump's just one - this 'un's got a pressed steel su...
No Rev 3 ECU/loom - this engine was bought from someone who got it from a "reputable source", so I'm keeping my fingers crossed a bit - that's why I want to strip it & check it over. It's got the exhaust manifold and downpipe, ok, so that's a minor relief! Surely, the engines can't be ...
Ok, here we go... Just bagged the Rev 3 engine, and as far as I can see there ain't much difference visibly, except for the very prominent "Yamaha" logo on the timing belt upper guard (I take it this was built by Yamaha for Toyota, then?). Aside from that guess, what are the differences be...
...Will a Rev 3 Yamaha 3S-GE engine fit straight into a Rev-2 G-Ltd automatic?
I've located a good one at a very good price, but unsure if there might be technical clashes...
Any advice welcome!
Ta,
Baz.
As said above, I've had a hiccup with my MK2 Rev2 - rattling on startup, then above 2800rpm, smoke accompanying at both points - not nice! Need another motor, I reckon... Anyone out there (in East Anglia-ish) able to do an engine rip-out/swap for me? I'm able to muck in, but cannot do it on my drive...
Don't know about Club Attendees, but I went past it (last year, I think?) and saw a Mk1 going in - whether as entry into show or not, I don't know, but it did trigger my interest (though our old Mk1 wasn't able then!) .
Might go this year...
...Especially those like lewmr2 ... He's probably jellified his grey cells with over-sized sub-woofers, then sucked the remaining few into his induction tract for complete liquification, which might explain why he obviously didn't read the thread properly & heed the well-intended warning - but t...
I have - just don't get near my front bumper, eh?
Even Mercs & Beemers have been known to ditch-dive after cutting me up - but then, they deserve it, the arrogant sods! I just don't want it to happen to a 'fellow' club member in a valued car, that's all...
Tch! After all the years we were the East Anglia Organisers, too...we've still got our ol' Mk1a! No surprise on not knowing my forum name - it's an alias. playing on my initials and a teeny bit extra, that's all. Didn't do forums, back then - took me a long while just getting the hang of e-mails &am...
Doh! Should've guessed... Thanks, Lauren! (By-the-way, are you the same Lauren who used to be National Organiser for the MK1 Club? If so, 'Hiya from the past!')
Google???? I know what that is, but not the inference...?
