Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Your opinion on my Tubby's value please.

I agree, i had mine up for sale for over 2 months, originally at £6k then down to £5400 with no takers at all. These MR2 Turbos are not worth as much as people think. btw mine is a 1996 rev4 Turbo. I've decided to keep mine now.

Re: MR2 Turbo GTS 1996 Rev 4

Not sure why these links don't work. Best best is to copy and paste them into the URL field on your browser. The car is in excellent condition but the sideskirts have a few stone chips, which you've seen. If i don't sell the car this time round i'll keep hold of it but i really wanted to sell it bef...

[Mk2 Turbo] Attempting to adjust the timing

I attempted to check my timing this weekend with a view to ensuring it was set to 10 degrees. The problem is that i can't find the actual mark on the crank pulley, i understand from various posts that there will be a small notch which i have to mark with chalk or tippex but i can't even see that to ...

Re: detonation cans?

Hey llenrub or AM Tuning or anyone else, where did you get those knock alert instruments from and what was the price? I presume you wire them in series between the knock sensor and the ECU or something?

Re: Knock sensor fault - I've run out of ideas!

I've always used Optimax since i've had the car. I can't hear any knocking. I thought that the knock sensor was supposed to deal with any knocks by adjusting the timing accordingly not by flagging an error and then completely retarding the timing. I'm not sure though.

Knock sensor fault - I've run out of ideas!

Please can somebody help me with this fault! When starting out in my car, as soon as I reach 3000rpm my engine warning light comes on and the car runs in safe mode for the duration of that journey. A diagnostic check shows this to be error code 52 – knock sensor. I replaced the knock sensor with a G...

Re: [Mk2 Turbo] Error code 52 Knock Sensor after engine rebuild

The battery was disconnected when the engine was rebuilt. The situation now is that i've since done another 30 miles since i reported the error code. During those 30 miles, the EM light has NOT come on once to report the knock sensor or anything else. Perhaps that was just a "glitch" before?

Re: [Mk2 Turbo] Error code 52 Knock Sensor after engine rebuild

Thanks for the info guys. I'm still a little worried. I took the car out earlier for a 4 mile drive and the engine warning light didn't come on. Surely if the knock sensor had actually "blown" then the engine warning light would be on constantly?

[Mk2 Turbo] Error code 52 Knock Sensor after engine rebuild

Car = Rev4 GTS turbo. My piston rings recently went requiring a bottom end rebuild, i had a new piston in no. 4 and all pistons had new rings fitted. The symptoms of this problem were low compression on cylinder 4, oil smoking out the dump valve and the engine warning light reporting knock sensor. I...

Running in but needs an MOT

I've just had my engine rebuilt (Rev4 Turbo) after cracking a piston and i will be running it in from next week onwards. The MOT ran out a month back so this needs renewing. For the MOT, the car will need an emissions test and i hear that they run the car at a certain revs for a period of time. The ...

Me too, i rivetted the side skirts in and filled the gaps with clear bathroom sealant and 4 months on it's still done the job.

Compression test results - please help

Car = rev4 1996 GTS Previously i'd been having some problems with my car, smoke was coming from my BOV when in use. On the way home the other night the engine warning light came on, the subsequent error code was 52 - knock sensor. On Saturday i did a compression test, the results: all cylinders were...

Re: Oily and Smokey Dumpvalve

Here's some more news on my oily dump valve problem. Last night I drove home and the engine warning light came on, the subsequent error code was 52 - knock sensor. Today i've done a compression test. Here are the results: Cylinder 1 (70psi), all others were around 164psi. I removed the oil cap (see ...

Re: Oily and Smokey Dumpvalve

Thanks for the reply and the photos Ian. I checked the engine and the oil is definitely coming from the dump valve. By pulling the throttle cable, you can see smoke from the dump valve. I'm pretty sure now that it's a turbo problem and from what everybody has said, i'm going to attempt to remove the...

Re: Oily and Smokey Dumpvalve

Thanks for answering guys. So if it is oil seals in the turbo, do i actually have to remove the turbo from the car to inspect it and diagnose this?

Karam, when you say "cam cover breather still on the intake", could you elaborate a bit more as i'm not familiar with that?

Thanks,
Tim.
