[Mk2] [Generic] toyota pricing

Post by andyc1988 »

toyota pricing!!

for fitting a front window to my mr2 and 6 nuts and 10 washers I was charged 196.76  .

Id already removed all the interior side to the door so saved them some time there, so all they had to do was fit the window

how long do you think that would take normally? seems alot of money for a job I thought they could do within 2 hours?

it is a lot of money for a diy job. i would have thought a 40 min or so job. if its not raining tomorrow im going to be changing my drivers side window as ive a new tinted one to put in, ill post back with a time frame...

toyota main dealers will rob from a blind man so i never use them :-k

another thing to remember is that they may have used an apprentice or someone with little experience....

I would normaly have tackled it myself! but I just couldnt work out how to get the window mechanism out :( but If I knew they would have charged that much I would have tried harder lol

picked it up last night in the dark and the window looked okay....this morning however I am even less pleased with the service. I bought a rev1 scrap window I thought all windows for the mr2s where the same?

these are 2 picks of the drivers side original window and how it lines up and the last 2 are the new windows fitting.

the new window!!

the front part is too high and has ripped throught the rubber surround near the tweater and the back part looks too low and dosent seem to seal like the other window....and all for a shade under £200 BARGIN!

Go back and get them to do it till it does seal properly... not the easiest operation apparently. Oh and by the way they prob charged you about £85 per hr for their 'expertise' hence the high initial bill though yet more reason to go back and get them to finish it properly.
Can't see on the topic review where you're from but the best affiliates here charge about £40 phr and DO know what they're doing...

Its not been fitted properly by the looks of it. Toyota are no more specilist than anyone else. A mechanic is a mechanic. I use a one man band, been working for over 20 years and he is spot on.

took the car back to them yesterday at 10.00am and waited for a phone call about the car which never came. I arrived at toota this morning to get the car which they had not even touched and have told me that its the best they can do and that the window is not ajustable so perhaps its because I didnt buy a whole new window mechanism.

surely this cannot be right? [-(

That's total rubbish mate. The window has two adjusting points, one at the front and one at the back of the door i.e. leading edge of window and trailing edge of window. You can therefore adjust how high it goes up and the angle of the front and rear of the glass.

I know this because I have done it....and it took about 20 mins to remove the door card, adjust correctly and replace door card. Insist they do it properly!

of course it's not, go back and tell them you want it fixed properly, if they try to fob you off demand a full refund, you have paid for a service and they have not provided it to an acceptable standard, if they refuse ask for the guy's details that you're speaking to and tell him you'll be reporting them to head office and speaking to citizens advice

speak to your local citizens advice bureau, by a company taking your money (especially the going rate or above) they are basically saying they are fully qualified to provide the service, basically in law if you pay someone a pittance to carry out a job they have limited liability, if you pay full whack you have the right to a proper service and if they don't provide it to satisfaction you have rights.

Trading standards would be worth talking to as well, any time i've had to kick up a fuss was with electronic stuff, which all falls under the sales of goods act, with work to a car it probably wouldn't be as straight forward.

COntact the garage first and let them know of your complaint, remain calm, remember that your problem lies with the garage not the individual, do this verbally and ask to speak to the manager, if they won 't try and reach an agreement ask for his details and inform him that you intend to take the matter further, most people don't like customers taking their details down and the fact that you will be naming them personally on a complaint that could end up in the small claims court will quite often make them change their minds

Perhaps you could print these out and take them with you... note these are scans (shamelessly borrowed from megaboost.co.uk) of an original toyota service manual!

I'm going to use those, very useful! My driver's door rattles and feels like it has play in the regulator-glass mountings somehow.
