Annual Dragstrip Day, Santa Pod *MR2 magazine coverage*

Post by mr2mk1chick »

I am arranging the second MK1 Club Annual Dragstrip Day again, with IMOC invited again too.
I am also inviting Two Brutal again and hope they come too.
I will also extend the invite to ROC too.
**ROC & Two brutal coming too**

2nd Annual Club Drag-strip Day
Saturday 7th October

With the popularity of last years event we are running this club competitive drag strip day again. The only Run-What-You-Brung (RWYB) date I could find that didn’t clash with another club event or other larger event at the drag-strips, means we are at Santa Pod again on the day before the Jap Show Finale. Unfortunately, 2 other well-known drag strips (Shakespeare County Raceway & York Drag-strip) which hold RWYB did not have free dates which didn’t clash with other events, but maybe next year will see us somewhere different.
However this means that for those of you wishing to travel for the club drag-strip competition you can make a whole weekend of it by camping over (included in the price of a weekend entry ticket) or try a local B&B. This way you can do both events over the weekend.

Again, this year trophies are up for grabs in the following categories:
• Fastest MK1a
• Fastest MK1b Coupe
• Fastest MK1b T-Bar
• Fastest MK1 SC

To be eligible you must be a paid up MK1 club member. We will be extending the invite again to IMOC’ers, and they will hopefully be awarding the trophy for the fastest MK2 NA and the fastest MK2 Turbo again.
I am inviting the Two Brutal club cars again this year, and hope they have a few cars that can attend – as it would be great to see what ¼ mile times those mental engines can pull in the MK1, hopefully with a trophy for their fastest car too.
What you need to do: Book your own entry ticket to Santa Pod, pay for RWYB on the day *remember to bring your driving licence for RWYB.

Costs (per person):

Weekend Ticket: £15 advance, £20 on the gate (includes free camping)

Day Ticket: Sat £10 (no advance)
Sun £12 advance, £15 on the gate

RWYB Costs: Sat £20 for unlimited runs
Sun £15 for 3 runs *may be very busy

Could be well up for this :D

Can we compete in the mk1b category?

If anyone thinks they have the fastest mk1 now could be your chance to try and beat Penelope.

bring it on....

Sponge Bob will bring it on Stu ;) just let me get her tweaked properly...

Yeah - what is the score with Mk1.5's ? Do we go by chassis or engine? Do we even get to compete?

Hiya Nik
PM sent

glad the 1.5's are up for it
I was thinking a mk1.5 class, with 2Br putting up a trophy as IMOC do with their MK2 na & tubby classes (last yr).
I can order all the trophies together.

I don't want my ass spanked by a 1.5 in the SC class do I?! LOL

Wahey! \:D/ Looks like some Mk1.5s will be there. Never seen a Mk1.5 on track or on a dragstrip yet.

Went to Elvington last year and was hoping to get a ride in Megatron's. But unfortunately it developed a problem last minute and I ended up going out in his 2 litre Vauxhall powered Mk1 Escort. Top fun, but very scary!

But how are us poor 4AG powered cars going to compete? :-k

I think we need to persuade Mong to buy a new car and fit his old Nitrous system into it :P

(Or he could help me re-engineer my Nitrous system in my SC and I'll have a go! )

I'll be fitting my nitrous next weekend and am definately coming to this to try it out. Anyone there with nitrous/4age tuning tips will be generously rewarded with a cup of tea.

How's your nitrous coming Jo? I take it you won't be running Tango tho...

We kinda put a hold on things for a while as there has been other maintenance/preperation work that was needed to be done to the other two cars.

We also still need to get hold of suitable jets for Tango.
