What do I need to fit a stereo????

Ive just got myself a new Kenwood CD player to replace the double DIN in my Rev2.

Is there anything I need to get before having a go at fitting it? Will I need to get a double DIN to single DIN adapter?

Do the wire connectors go straight in?

If your current headunit it a standard Toyota one, then you'll just need a wiring adaptor:

PC2-17-4 if no active speakers (around £12 from Halfrauds),
PC9-406 if active speakers & Apr 1990 to Jan 1994 (approx £35),
PC9-411 if active speakers & Jan 1994 to Apr 2000 (approx £35).

If it's an aftermarket stereo then pray the previous own didn't splice the wires, otherwise there should already be an adaptor there

For the gap that you'd leave, a DIN Pocket is a good choice, technical name is FP-11-01:

Thanks a lot for the information JohnnyC, thats very helpful. So with a bit of luck Ill be able to stick it straight in using the Halfrauds adapter.

Got mine from Halfrauds for a whopping £29.95

Toyota themselves do them considerably cheaper at around £15.

Hi mate,

No, just a toyota ISO connector from halfrauds is not enough. it wont allow you to connect the ISO to the back of your kenwood. (the H.U only has one of the blocks on the end of the ISO) assuming youve got a pc217-4- the ISO for no cative speakers
Im in exactly the same position.

does anyone know if theres an intermediate connector that goes between the headunit and the ISO? Im not going to splice wires!
Its the small block that doesnt fit.
think it says front and rear on the wires so mite be for speakers

Ok- im really confused now. do i need a PC2 17-4 and a PC9 406 ISO connector to make my kenwood work? bearing in mind my active system has been removed?

Hello,

I went through this about 6 weeks ago with my 97 non active MR2 system. you only need one lead, and that will connect your ISO -----> TOYOTA loom.

Not sure what the other chap is on about but I'd say that is something particularly special to his car. So the only question is active vs non active. As johnnc says if you're not active (ie no sub behind passneger seat) then
you need a PC2-17-4 - Toyota ISO lead £10

As mentioned before if you currently have the toyota double din in there then there is no reason to expect any suprises when you take the dash surround out. I'm a flippin expert by now so mail me if you need any help!

here is my unit fitted...I'm very pleased with it. I'd also upgrade your front speakers for some £30/£40 ones from halfords or ebay.
