[Mk2] [Generic] JSP poly Gear Linkage Bush Kit! **impressed!**

Post by jimGTS »

having been sorting out the best ways to improve my shifting, the last thing i looked into was the gear linkage bushes....
now i already run some uprated items (hense leaving this till last), which appear still in good condition, but upon removing discovered they were solid plastic. not a major issue, but had no flex.

i heard about folks going back to stock bushes to get back a smooth shifting experience, and i also heard about the new JSP kit among other bush kits....

the JSP kit appealed to me more as it has the best of both worlds i thought, flexability of a bush, to allow some movement and cushioning, but also stiffer than stock, and wont warp like stock to....
i wanted to get away from anything solid this time like my old bushes and these stateboard bearing kits i hear about as they allow for no play and flex.....

so far, very impressed, now it probably doesnt help i have a torque bar, as my shifts are now awsome anyway! but i could "feel" the shifts had a cushioning in there when it went in, felt like it didnt hit and knock into gear like before.....felt very easy, which is what i want!

tho it wasnt a night and day difference for me, i still feel it was a werthly upgrade as i was already coming from an uprated bush kit. i would still have this kit over my last one everytime!

now im already running a few bits to help my shifting, but with those without these items, youll still be very impressed with the feel of this shifter kit....
felt tight, had a nice cushion once into gear, and will know dout improve your shifting!

for me, a big thumbs up.... :thumleft: :thumleft:
another thing to note, the fit of the bushes were amazing!

i ended up removing the starter as i felt it easier to reach these items, but you can do this from underneath also......

I've also fitted JSP gear linkage bearings, but I went for the bearing type. Apparently more at home on the track due to the limited flex (i.e. None whatsoever), whilst their poly bushes retain some flex (still not as much as standard though).

I did it because my gearbox has a pretty shoddy 2nd gear, despite being bought as a 44k miler.

Noticed that my old rubber/metal OEM bushes were quite worn, which could add to the sloppy gears.

Car isn't running at the minute so can't say how they feel, however at £8, what have I got to lose (except another gearbox).

Just read your post properly (without skimming) and noticed that the type I have bought are indeed the 'skateboard bearing' type.

I'll post back once the car is driving.

a solid bush has no advantage over a poly one....
track or no track, a solid bearing will make gear changes even more difficult imo.

i USED to have a hard time getting into 2nd on a fast gear change, and sometimes 3rd, ive completely illiminated these problems:

swaping quick shift for rev2+ shifter (but kept lowering plate)
MT90
torque bar
poly engine mount
poly gear linkage bush

EVERY step on this list has improved my gear changes.....

notably the torque bar and going back to a rev2+ shifter....

Just going by what the chap at jap performance said. I have a short shift kit so that might contribute to my sloppy 2nd gear. Also found that my one engine mount, the one by the linkage cables, was loose, so that might contribute too.

I think at the end of the day, it is the gearbox though and no small quick fixes will help long term. If I 'offer' second gear eventually it engages smoothly, bt if I try to force it in, it just won't go. Like it's tooth on tooth.

the biggest change i have found to gear changes is a lightened flywheel.... used to have a bit of a hard time hitting 2nd and sometimes 3rd but since the fidanza flywheel went in its perfect! the revs drop that but quicker on upshift and the gears mesh so much easier. works a treat!
