[Mk2] [Turbo]HELP!! What does a standard flywheel weigh?

Post by -:[KM]:- »

Help needed urgently peeps..

Recently bought a 'lightweight' flywheel... problem is it doesn't feel very light weight. :?

So, what do they weigh?

Even better, does anyone have any photo's of a standard one. The best I can find is this ST165 fly that was for sale recently...

Standard OR Lightweight??

It's looking VERY similar to the above pictures.. :pale:

It weighs 7.1kg too.. Not exactly lightweight (I think). I need a definate answer to cement this, then I'll probably need to put a claim against the seller.

xxxxxx ebay again... ](*,)

a light weight flywheel is about 4.5 - 5.5KG (Fidanza is 4.5kg I think)

If thats 7.1kg then its like carrying 2 extra bags of sugar around compaired to the usual lightweight flywheel weight

But wait for others to confirm as well, maybe PM some of the specialists with the pics to see what they think it is.

Fidanza is 45 percent lighter so with the figures above id say someone has sold you a standard jobbie and tryed his/her luck

A topic I started many moons ago about flywheel weights. It would still appear that yours is light weight compared to stock, just not as light as it could be. I would definately wait till someone else has weighed theirs though before jumping to conclusions.

Thanks chaps..

In that link of Ant's it states 18kg... A standard fly is never THAT heavy?!?!

Someone, somewhere must know the exact weight.

Is that from a turbo? I doubt the N/A & Turbo fly wheels are that different but would be good to get all the figures together. This is where we need a breaker or someone who's got engines apart to do a bit of investigation. Would help the masses.

the stock one I weighed was a rev2 NA :thumleft: but i have had a rev3 turbo fly and there is not much difference except the bolt holes for the cover plate, so I doubt there will be anything much between the weight

the lightened fly I have on my NA now is a 3SGTE flywheel with a 2.2 5SFE clutch

Stock rev3 turbo is 7.4KG, so accounting for slight differences in scales and in the factory balancing process, I'd say that flywheel is bone stock.

Cheers,
Jon

Thanks guys...

Unfortunately, it looks like I've been sold a stocker. I'll see what response I get from the seller..
