[Mk2] [Turbo] bleeding clutch

Post by bri0905 »

Hi all,

Is there any trick to bleeding the clutch on rev 3 tubby?
I've changed the clutch and am now struggling to get a firm pedal.
I had it firm and rebounding but not quite good enough to engage gear and now it's gone again completely and the pedal just stays down, praying it's not the master cylinder seals that have failed.

How long should it take and whats the best method?

Thanks

Well if its like any other car, you press and release clutch till all air bubbles have gone, then tighten the bleed nipple, pump the clutch peddle a few times and it will go stiff, job done.

If it goes stiff then suddenly goes to the floor, you have a leak or master cylinder gone i'd say

You can adjust the push rod from the back of the pedal to get more throw on the MC. Make sure you don't jab the pedal as this can break up the bubbles making them harder to bleed.

I didn't know the pedal was adjustable, I've had every nut undone at the slave end bleeding it and can now get it into gear but the bite point is about 5mm off the floor. Might try adjusting the pedal. Thanks very much for the info!! :D

No worries. Its easy to do if you can bend over backwards to get your head under the steering column. Undo the lock nut that twist the rod. Can't remember what way does what. YOu want to be winding it out of the MC though. Just don't come all the way obviously
