[Mk2] [Turbo] Oil leak around headgasket?

Post by conor-mr2 »

Hey guys,

so Ive taken various bits and pieces off the turbo in order to try to get to the bottom of this oil leak. Ive taken a few photos here

Thing is the oil looks to be leaking around the headgasket? Is this normal?
Does this make sense?

Help!!!

Thanks

Hello mate,

I`d say that it is highly unlikley that it is your headgasket seeping oil however I would say it is not outside the realms of impossibiltity for it to be seeping.

It is more likely that it is the dizzy seal or cam cover gasket/seal.

If you car is running alright other than this oil leak I would change you dizzy seal and check you cam cover gasket is not damaged (no need to replace if its not damaged) what I would chnage while you are at it though are the screws that hold the cam cover down you can get allen key head bolts that are much better (ebay) also make sure you seal well around the cam seal areas.

Try that and then if it doesnt sort the leak I`d look at other areas. :thumleft:

just stripped my old engine down, and always wondered where the leak had come from, it WAS the head gasket in the far left side corner of the engine

as said though, the more likely option is the cam cover gasket

Thanks guys,

Its definately not the cam cover gasket as I had replaced that previously and had vigorously checked whether that was the issue this time. While I was at it last time I got the twosrus allen key bolts for the cam cover gasket.

Ill look into the Dizzy seal though and replace the o-ring there. Im still heading towards it being the headgasket though. And that far left corner leak is sounding rather familiar! :(

Hi Mate,

Did you have any luck confirming where your leak is? Pretty sure mine is leaking from the same place (back left hand side of block from head gasket.)

Can anyone confirm if this is where the oil feed pipe goes from the block into the head? Has anyone had this leak fixed before? Guessing because it’s head gasket related it will cost £500+ due to labour costs.

BenF… if you happen to read this message I found an old thread where you mentioned your old rev2 leaking for the head gasket. Did you ever get it fixed?

Thanks for any advice,
