wrote my tubby off on saturday not good, the rear wheels are swaying like a drunk!!! dont know if its chassie damage or just buckeled wheels any one know the size of the nut to take the wheels off on a rev1 as apparently if the front wheels dont sway when on the front then i might be lucky with just a new set of wheels. gutted

So is it written off or does it just need some attention?
What happened?
It sounds as though you can still drive it? Have you just smacked a curb and knocked the alignment out or bend the suspension?
It needs to be up in the air and getting checked over.
Anyway unlucky... unless you were driving like a loon... in which case.... unlucky you loon.
came off a bypass came on boost, rear end came out caught it threw me the other way over a central reservation across another road over a kerb into a feild via a fence.
drove the car home only 2 mins, suspension seems to bump over things ok {tein fully ajustable coilovers} but the rear wheels are swaying big style got her up on a jack couldnt see anything broke but then im not a mechanic was told if the fronts dont sway on the rear i could just get away a new set of alloys fingers crossed, thing is the impact i hit it with was quite hard ie 40mph so im guessing its genna be chassie damage or axel
If you can move the wheel by hand (side to side) then you've probably bent the arm that goes to the subframe. I reckon these will bend long before you damage the chassis.
Nik
no digi camera sorry, u cant move the wheels side to side but they wobble when you drive it
anyone know the size for the nut to get the wheels off the car?
Mate - get it checked over by a mechanic before you do anything. Before you drive it or whatever, get a mechanic you know to go over it.
You don't know whats bent, out of line or cracked - its better to be safe then sorry, you don't want to be on a corner and have your suspension collapse and have a repeat of the incident.
Is your life worth not paying an inspection fee?
If you came off at the speed you're indicating, there's gonna be more damage than a set of wheels.
Get someone who knows what they're doing to look at it properly.
problem is i cant drive it as the rear wheels are bent hence getting the front wheels on the back to see if they still sway around if they do then iv got some seriouse damage and il phone the insurance co to inspect the damage as they will arrange the tow inspection ect, if they go round ok then might be lucky with just new wheels im genna change the wheels round tonight and see whats going on but i rekon its genna be bad news
Define 'swaying'! Do you mean the wheels are buckled, or they are actually swaying on their axis? Even if only buckled a whack like that will have possibly done some other damage, you need to jack the car up and take the wheels off and take a look.

19mm I think you'll find unless mine arent standard sized nuts.
I did simular, my damage was two destroyed alloys, I bent the bracket that holds the anti roll bar in place and fcuked the bush. Also the suspension sprang a leak. Also needed a 4 wheel alignment. Other than that nothing else got bent at all.
This was at least 40mph, by the time I'd spun up the kerb and onto the grass any way.
genna swap the wheels over tonight to see if the fronts sway like the rears if they dont i might be lucky but if they do its a defo insurance jobbie, what do u rekon the best thing to do is claim or repair myself
worked it out and im looking at.......... £600 at least for wheels £150 front bumper £100 wing £150 new rad + anything else that may be damaged must be worth paying the £500 excess and letting the insurance do there thing what u rekon
skipp123 wrote: £600 at least for wheels £150 front bumper £100 wing £150 new rad
Get some standard 15" wheels £100
Secondhand bumper £50
Secondhand wing £20
Not sure on the rad but think you can get a new one from ebay for about £80
All of that stuff is minor, you need to find out if there is any more damage that you don't know about. The expensive bit is the rear quarter so far because there is no solution for that apart from lots of hours in the bodyshop.
It all comes down to whether or not you want to lose your no claims (if you have any) but you will pay more in the long run come renewal time for the next X amount of years....

Mate , surely you can turrn the wheels by hand and see throught the alloys if the hubs is turning off axiz when doing so? If the hub is running true then you 'know' the wheel is the problem.
Must say, i just looked at your profile and gasped mate. Cliffs old car really was the mintest of rev1s. Hopefully it will be again soon.
bets of louck,
Bobby
had a mate come round last night and he just laughed called me a big girl and told me to just get a new set of wheels on her as he is 99% sure its just buckled wheels, genna get some std ones off ebay just to make sure it is just the wheels and take her to the body shop to get the bumper and wing done then she should be back to better than when cliff had it new paint get the bumper filled and im ready to go apparently
michael wrote:Is your mate qualified to come up with suggestions like that?
Has he inspected the car?
As Michael has said and everyone else above - get it checked by a qualified person - not someone who looks at it and calls you a big girl.
Wheels need to come off, it needs to be inspected from underneath and double checked.
Its not worth risking your life for an hour of a mechanic's time.
genna get some cheep std wheels for like £200 then take it down to the garage to be properly inspected from what he said i might be lucky but then u dont know till its up on a ramp. fingers crossed

I'll sell you a set for £200 if you want
I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.
