Replacing Sills

Post by elbon50 »

Is there a detailed guide anywhere on here to replacing a sill on a Mk1 ?

Would consider using one of the Little Bird ones off eBay or perhaps a two door Escort skin

Have searched but cant find any info

Thanks Paul, here's a few questions for starters

My OS sill is rotting at the front end & the sill return also needs replacing

Presumably I should drill out the spot welds top & bottom of the sill ?

Where & how do I need to cut & re-connect front & back ?

Will the Escort sill reach right back to the wheelarch & thus replace the sill return as well as the sill ?

What mods to the shape of the Escort sill do I need to make before fitting ?

hi peter , this is one of my cars i did about 4 years ago using Mr woods mod and it worked a treat but you will have to put another 10 degree bend in a long the full length to get it to fit right .

i do pretty much as Gary has shown you except i leave more panel on the section just ahead of the rear wheel arch, the Escort sill has a large panel there that you can fold to replace most of that.

Once done it makes a perfect repair and you cannot tell the difference.
