My "Impulse Build" Rev1 (now 2) Turbo Project

Post by j0ns »

Thought I'd start myself a build thread to share some ideas and keep myself a log of what i've done etc...

I have a rough idea of where I want to go with this car, which will be more of a weekend toy than a daily driver so I am looking to loose absolutely everything that is not required to turn this into a road legal track toy. So major weight loss and aerodynamics experimentation.

Parts I have picked up so far: Blitz Nurspec, HKS Induction Kit, Boot Mount Intercooler, CT20b Hybrid Turbo (not sure wether to use this or go big!), Cry02 Sprayer, BGW

Parts I need that I think are absolutely necessary: Roll Cage, Suspension Setup, Rev3 Headgasket, Uprated Fuel Pump

Parts I want but probably don't need: Forged Engine, Bigger Turbo, Uprated Fuelrail & Injectors, Standalone ECU, Water Injection

Car as it stands now, looks a Standard Rev1 apart from the Nurspec:

I am going to try and do as much work myself as possible. a) to keep costs down and b) because I LOVE IT  Watch this space...

sounds like a good project! Completely agree with the doing it yourself plan!

Only thing worth adding to the list would be a brake overhall, braided lines and decent pads :thumleft: (maybe even rev2+ setup?)

Had been thinking about the anchors, im hoping braided lines and some decent discs and pads being squeezed by some Dot 5.1 will be enough to begin with....

Reluctant to loose the Nurspec because im quite attached to it so will probably be the last thing I worry about...

Token BGW, not to everyones taste, but it'll probably be off most of the time...

Finally stopped procrastinating yesterday and took a grinder to the boot! No going back now...

Im trying to make the pipework route fairly simple, whilst still avoiding the ECU and leaving most things in their original place, im hoping if I ever need to replace anything this will make it simple to do so.

Holes cut: I stated from the engine side to make sure access into the boot was easy.

Pipes in.

Only problem i've encountered so far, but only minor.

Intercooler In: Don't like it like this though because its not central, so need a few more pipes to center it up.

Centered and at the angle I want it.

So its getting there... Job for the Girlfriend next week is to mock up some cardboard vents, im sure she loves that sort of thing... :thumleft:

Put on my new boot lid today, but cannot for the life of me get it to sit level! Which is leading me to believe my car is bent! I couldn't see it with the old boot lid on because that was slightly creased anyway....

Is there any other reason why my boot wouldn't shut properly on 1 side? Its not resting on the rubbers or anything... :-k

Alright Tim! The crease in the old boot wasn't noticeable with the Rev1 Spoiler.

I don't think the new boot is bent, it looked straight when it came off the other car anyway. Gonna have a look at the hinges today...

Edit: Its definitely bent! Have uncovered some very dodgy looking welds, pi55ed off at myself for not spotting this before...

So look out for a Black Rev1 Turbo being broken very shortly... Next stop Rev3!
