Hi all

Just bought my 1st mk1 today. I think I got a good deal - a red 1988 'T' bar with 77000 miles and full service history, red, black leather, no rust anywhere (arches are perfect), good gearbox and no probs with gasket or such like. Obviously the paint is slightly faded here and there but not bad. It will be a weekend car for my wife and I to enjoy. I love it already. Anyway, I'm looking forward to fitting in around here and searching for useful posts.

Welcome Macky17, sounds like a nice car, my first mk1 was red & i loved it, make sure you get yourself along to a few meets here & there & get yourself known to other owners they will be a big help to you as this is your first mk1, also dont forget to update your profile, this tell us where you are in the country, you may find a fellow mk1 owner just around the corner to you. Why not try & get yourself along to JAE this year too, this will be the years largest gathering of MK1's & is where we hold our national rally, if your not already a MK1 mr2 club member then i would considder joining, its a great club with very helpful people, Karl & Lou on here do a fabulous job of editing the club mag & we are all really friendly :thumleft: , but you dont have to be a club member to go to JAE :thumleft: , anyway enjoy your car & as its Red, buy lots & lots of t-cut................................. your gonna need it  , Jinxy

That's all good advice - I'll do my profile now.

Any idea what I did wrong in the post above to stop the pictures showing?

Hiya,

We've just bought a MK1 Red MR2 - not a T-Bar though, just a sunroof and are in Essex aswell! We got ours yesterday and already my other half keeps finding reasons to 'drive it' before he leaves tonight for work.

You can't NOT go to JAE really, seeing as it's being held on Mersea Island which must be very local to you ;)

It didn't like the part after the file name, I just changed it to a direct link to the image by chopping it off...

You recognised it from the pictures? It's about 3 mins drive from my front door. Good to know there's some local owners. If it's Mersea Island (the meet) I'm there. When is it??

Private road opposite a school - only policed between 8:30 and 3:45 week days :)

Can't lower it - speed bumps where I work in and out :(

Thanks folks :D My step daughters are 15 and 17 - too young to appreciate a 1980s design. They don't really like the mk1s at all (the young generation have no taste). Ironically, back in the 80s (I'm 37) I didn't like them much either but now I adore them - go figure... For me, the point isn't really the looks it's the roof down, a sunny day, a twisty road and a grin the size of Nebraska. I've had an Accord Type R, A 16V Gold GTi (mk2), a Civic VTi, A dropped and modded Cavalier Gsi, A Peugeot Mi16 and 2 x Fiat Coupe Turbos (running 250 bhp+) and yet this little 122bhp Toyota is more fun than any of them - I love it (unfortunately so does my wife who keeps nicking the keys  ).

Quick question - at 6'4" I'm really pushing the limits of that little cabin - everything is adjusted all the way and still there's no room behind the seat for the roof panel or much room under the wheel for my knees. Has anyone fitted smaller steering wheels to these for that (or any other) reason??
