[Mk2] [Generic] Got to change my brakes... which ones?

Post by t-bar89 »

Hi All,

My front discs are worn and need changing. I've not long ago had some pagid sports pads put on the front though and they are fine.

Can I just change the discs? Or are you supposed to change discs and pads together?

Also which discs are best to get? holed? grooved? I fancy upgrading the standards.

Cheers, Pete.

if doing new discs you normally change pads aswell so as everything wears together. i would personally change both. when i get some cash im looking at getting grooved/cross drilled items with braided hoses and decent pads. ive read on here though that standard stuff with decent pads is good well if your calipers are working properly and are not sticking might even go for a rebuild on those and paint them at the same time :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

I have goodrich braided brake hoses allready. Will change the disca and pads then. I've seen some standard discs on camskill for just £67 inc postage has anybody bought these or know if they are any good? most other places are around the £120 mark. :-k

I'm in a similar position - got a feeling my front discs are starting to warp.

Is it ok to replace the front discs & pads on their alone (or is it better to replace the rear ones at the same time?)

Thanks

They'll be fine.

(unless you're replacing the fronts with Carbotech Panther pads, as I believe there's specific instructions to replace ALL pads to keep them balanced)

I just had a quote for genuine Toyota fronts for £106+vat trade price and £90+vat trade price on the rears. Is this silly expensive then?

Cany anyone recomend good pads for a sensible(most of the time) driver who drives spiritedly once in a while?

No track days though.

If you're getting grooved/drilled discs try and get the ones that have the grooves or holes manufactured into the casting and not done afterwards....
