Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
guys my car is leaking like hell and with the weather where having lately its totally flooded every morning. Since its not garaged am after a cover to keep it tucked away, I have no clue as to which fits best or if theres one for the 2???
please advise
For a quick fix why not just pick up a tarpauline from a builders merchants? £14.00 at the one I work for and it'll be big enough to cover the T-bars panels.
Not ideal but cheap enough and it'll stop the floods till you find somethin better!
For a quick fix... go to Halfords and get some black silicone sealant and some cling film. Put the sealant into a little clump on the t-bar panels near where it leaks in, cover sealant in cling film, gently press t-bars into place, leave for 24 hours, remove cling film, enjoy no more drips.

fantastic! I'll give that a go tomorrow
meanwhile I popped in to Halfords and picked a cover that say's it should fit an MR2. cost me £50!!!
sounds really stupid, but i got a old pair of socks which i never wore becuase didn't like the colour, (they were quite thick) put them in the T-Bar shut it and cut of what was hanging out, worked all last winter.
I did see some body at a show this year who said they went to toyota and brought a little plastic bit that goes in the hole that the t-bar locks into and pulls the t-bar down tighter than the standard one.
IMO car covers aren't such a good idea unless the car is garaged anyway and you just want to keep the dust off. I kept mine under a cover in the early days of ownership and found after a few months that there were marks in the paint on each corner of the front and rear bumpers from the constant rubbing of the cover where it was moving in the wind. Also it rained one day and then the sun came out strong, when removing the cover I found that the lacquer on some of the roof had gone funny, probably where the condensation on the roof hadn't evaporated and then got baked by the sun.

Throwing a few old blankets over the car before putting the cover on can alleviate/solve those problems. I had an old escort covered that way for 2 years with no problems. For best results, make sure the car is very dry inside and out before covering it.

You do that and your likely not to have any paintwork after removal.
Either a decent car cover or not at all.
