Finally managed to get pics of my car (56k=asplode)

Post by sadako »

Well, had it for 6 months but was unable to borrow a digital camera. Finally put some pics up on webspace so those who have asked can see it.

Not the greatest Mk1 out there but its mine ^_^ Whoever redid the car's pinstriping was drunk. Ive so far managed to touch up the paint chips and replace those front sidelight lenses.

Image

The car came with a badly damaged aftermarket telescopic antenna. The automatic one was long gone. I put a rubber duck antenna on as it matched the 80s feel of the car. It matched the paintwork when I put it on but its rapidly turning into shaf's next accessory

First thing I did was move the stereo over from my old car. Removed and cut down the brackets holding the pocket, rebolted them in. Took the radio surround and carefully marked out and cut the precise hole for the radio. Ut fitted like a dream. Unfortunatly i'd got the surround upside down and cut a radio shaped hole over the pocket. x_x Another surround is on my wishlist so I can clean this mess up. I didnt like the stock gearstick, it felt uncomfortable in my hands so I got a chrome ball. A shorter gearstick is also on my wishlist.

Tinworm has been busy since I got the car. Dont have the resources to stop it yet.

Image

Tinworm has been very busy. Noticed it is going for the bottom of my passenger side A pillar. It isnt very big yet but I have no idea what to do about it yet.

Image

Someone ousted him from ths location before. Not coming back but the bondo looks a little rough. Need to redo it.

Image

API's finest with some state of the art matching HT leads. This went in after the original asploded in a big cloud of steam and exhaust on the M27. The mods start after september when my insurance renews. I dont have the master key for the alarm so I cant make it work. If anyone knows Autonix alarms gimme a shout.

Image

Wiring loom has a slight iffy connection and these warning lights are on permanantly. Need to get around to fixing that... This car is also a coinholder free zone, will be putting things such as manual choke switches there in the future.

Well, my car is in rough shape but I have seen worse brought back from the grave. We plan to be together for many years so I hope I can keep the old girl running.

Epilogue: Old girl? Well ships are always female so cars count for this, despite the previous owner informing me that the car's name was "Horace"...

...just a thought... If you do want an automatic aerial I've replaced the rubber duck aerial on my NA with one from Maplin....

RJ98G, Electric Automatic - Car aerial. £19.99 inc VAT. They're out of stock at the moment but will be getting some in a couple of weeks they recon - or you could try your local Maplin.

A bit of solderage is needed but nothing major.

Cheers,
Si.

If your head unit is has a flip down front, you can probably fit it like mine
Redrill the holes in the bracket so the the HU sits further back (don't use the cage that comes with the HU), then fit the surround back on so that it is in front of the HU. No need to cut it :D You can see it in this pic, I've since fitted a Pioneer Hu the same way and the front still flips down OK

My head unit was too big for that, and too big for the original brackets. I had to cut the top part of the brackets off so it only held the pocket. I did try to position it so the radio would flip down but IIRC it still didnt work.
