[Mk2] [Turbo] Is the Rev 2 CAT the same fitment as a Rev 3 CAT?

Post by kmb »

I've managed to get hold of a replacement CAT from a rev 2 turbo and have been told by the seller that the fitment is OK for a rev 3 turbo - Has anyone interchanged the two as mine is due to be delivered and fitted this week :o

Here is the advice I've received:

Seller of CAT wrote:You can either just transfer the cat section and use the rev3 turbo 'elbow', or just use the whole assembly (which I've sent), the only difference on the CT20b is an extra stud which isn't required to get a good seal on it.

Thanks for your help 8)

Yup... sounds about right about what they say

As long as all the support bracketry lines up, you'll be fine..

Wouldn't you be better off with a decat though :?

Cheers Keith - I'm keeping the cat that's removed (with the loose inner) perhaps to knock the middle out, might sell it on here as a decat?......... I don't want to modify my Rev 3 and make it fail the MOT emissions, seems like too much hassle to swap the cat over for MOT time :D

It shouldnt fail without one... My emissions are just outside the cat test limit so i easily do the non cat test

The 1994 MR2 Turbo does not require an emissions test, the 1995 does (it's all to do with whether limits are available, and they weren't before 1995)

Actually as the cut off is August '95 you could say that the majority of 95' turbos don't have to pass the stricter emissions test (see sticky in this forum)

My car just scrapes through by being manufactured in August 1995.

Lol, unlucky.

Have you actually failed the stricter emissions test though? Mine scrapes through that usually, or if not it goes through the less strict one.

Mine hasn't actually failed the MOT, when the turbo's away being remanufactured they noticed the element was loose inside the cat and hence my need for a replacement

I did consider removing the cat element but am too worried about failing the MOT in Feb and getting warning faults from the O2 sensor :(

They DO require an emissions test ... But go through on a Non CAT test limit
