Hi there! (New car on Wednesday)(Now with big Pics, 2nd page)

How do.

My name is Connor, I am a 22 year old guy from Plymouth and I just wanted to introduce myself.

Soon I shall be a proud MR2 owner so I just thought I would register to these forums, which are very informative, I must say. :D

At 11am on this coming Wednesday I will be saying farewell to my 2001 Saxo VTR of three years and saying HELLO to a 1996 red MR2 GT Turbo with 67k miles on the clock. The car seemed to be a good runner and was pretty clean throughout. It has some 18' wolfrace alloys that I think I will change to either standard jobbies or get some nice 5 spokes in white. It also has an aftermarket single can exhaust, and a flip up TV. Other than that it is pretty much standard I think.

Unfortunately I couldn't test drive the car myself because my insurance doesn't allow me driving other cars, so the guy who owns it took me out for a spin. It seemed very fast(coming from a VTR ) and the sound of the turbo spooling up behind my head was awesome. The only problem that I could find was that the bonnet stand clip was broken so as a temorary fix it was tied to the bonnet catch so as the car is moving it was making an annoying squeeking noise as it moved about, this shouldn't be a problem though, as I guess a new one won't cost much at all.

It is going to be quite a change going from a FF car with 98bhp to an MR with ~245bhp, thats for sure! I will take it VERY easy for the first week so that I can get used to the tremendous difference in power and handling that this thing will have.

The few days wait before I get this car will be agony! Im so impatient ](*,)

No pictures I'm afraid, but I will be sure to get some once I get my hands on it \:D/

Cheers!

Cool nice upgrade from you little french car :thumleft: You won't be dissapointed at all.

Id deffo get rid of the 18s though, they look gay and will slow the car down somewhat no doubt. Go for some 16" split rims :thumleft:

Regarding the bonnet stay clip these can be purchased from Toytota for a couple of quid, just pop along to your dealer with chassis and engine code.

Lol. I have sympathy for people who have owned cheap french cars before, in particular a Saxo. I've heard so many bad things about them.

You'll be very happy with your new purchase I'm sure, damn you're lucky to be able to afford a turbo as your first MR2. Be good to see some pics.

Welcome 8)

Yeh just take your time getting to know the car - get the wheels and rubber sorted as the first thing so that nothing catches you out too badly. The rest is just learning 8)

Looking forward to seeing some pics

Thanks for the warm welcome 8)

I'm really looking forward to Wednesday and the days are dragging, big time! I wan't this agonising wait to be over.... lol

To be honest, the Saxo that I have isn't a bad little car at all. It has certainly served me well over the past 3 years and has never had a problem. It is quite a fun little car to chuck about into corners and is relatively nippy but the tubby is going to be something else!

I plan on trading the 18' alloys and getting some nice 16' 5 spokes that suit the shape of the '2 and perhaps get them painted white or gunmetal. As for tyres, Im thinking Toyo Proxes as I have heard that they are pretty good?

Cheers.

hi welcome to the club. I am a 1994 GTS turbo owner they are the best cars on earth. Regarding wheels make sure they are as close to std sizes as possible cause else you could spoil the handling of the 2. I actually have 17 on mine in white but they some how work really well they are toyota alloys but not 100% sure what they came off. And yes take it very easy moving from ff to mr is a huge difference and then the power difference is the next thing. Just dont put too much poer on as you turn untill you get used to it. Anyway have fun mate.

As a newbie in a turbo its a hard call!

Toyo proxes are good in one way as you fairly quickly find the limit without them throwing you off the road - assuming you're gradually increasing power out of a corner not straight on full boost. The bad side is that you can't put a great deal of power down, especially if running more than stock power. You can't launch it off at the lights very easily either

The problem with standard sizes is that not many manufacturers make them any more so most use Proxes. Don't get me wrong, compaired to some budget tyres they're not bad at all but I wouldn't buy them again.

I'm now on Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s which I've used twice now and the mechanical grip is much better and they're not bad near the limit either. Only problem with more mechanical grip if you're not used to it is that you might be tempted to push the car more than you should and it will give less notice before slipping away.

Personally, I'd go F1s. Other option is Bridgestone Potenzas/SO3s if you can get them. Mytyres are about the cheapest place to get them.

proxes are a good tyre for a tubby. never tried the goodyears, so don't know if they actually are better like some say. have tried mickey T's - they're probably the best tyre for launches ....

on my car, the other tyres i've had were -

michelin pilots (when i got it) - awful !
falkens - awful !
dunlop sp-big number - worst

Without sounding harsh, I don't know a single person who has rated proxes over F1s once they've tried both, its always the other way around...

On 16's, what tyre sizes am I after? Wider at the back I am guessing.

I found a tyre size guide somewhere and I am pretty sure I found it on this site but I can't for the life of me find it again!

205 front and 225 rear is a safe bet then, on 45 profiles.
