LPG - for a mk2, is it possible?

Post by Kam »

Can it be done?, has anyone heard of/done it before.
I'm looking to beat the congestion charge and seeing as it will probably go up, I'm already looking at getting a scooter for the summer but dont want to be using that in the winter!
Seen quite few Toyota mpv's that have been converted and wondering if this is possible with the mr2, cos I don't really wanna have to sell it?

heard around £2000 for a 4 cylinder car, but seeing as it will be used for work/pleasure and congestion charge would be around a grand a year anyway, it might seem logical if you do ALOT of miles cos it costs about half the price of petrol.

TBH, I agree with ya, but just looking at alternatives, but don't wanna end up selling the 2 if I can keep and convert it.....

Can you not get a grant toward some of the cost?

I have just checked this and you can't, car has to be less than 5 years old to get a grant which pretty much rules out Mk2s.

The car also has to appear on the Powershift register to qualify for a grant but I can't check this cause the dam site is down!

Thats the link if anyone wants it!http://www.transportenergy.org.uk/grant ... powershift

i converted my mk1 some years ago www.mr2mk1club.com/lpg.html to good effect, the kit was £400 and took a few days....the car ran faultlessly on gas, economy is down by 10% (petrol burns more efficiently than propane) and power was down around 5% (for the same reasons) but at 36p/ltr it was half price motoring and doubled the range my mk1 could drive without filling up.There is no reason why a mk2na cant use the same system i did,it worked very well but i did have to sacrifice the boot for the tank, thats the downside of any lpg conversion.

Even if you pay someone todo the conversion, roughly a grand, you will recoup the conversion cost in saved fuel within 6 months of average use.
