TOTB IV - Camping / Club Display Area

Post by michael »

Some info on the camping and the potential club display area - sadly it all costs money :)

CAR Club Displays
Club display areas will cost the equivalent of £1.00 a car for the event (plus normal TOTB entry fee, and camping fee if applicable)

i.e. a 20 car plot will cost £20

Entry to the TOTB is in addition to the cost of a reserved display area

Overnight Camping (Saturday)

Competing Clubs will be allowed to camp the night before the event at Elvington. Competitors are allowed in FREE* the night before to give you more time in the morning to prepare your car. Non-competitors will have to pay a £10 per car overnight charge. £8 in advance.

People arriving on Saturday and camping overnight will have present their camping pass if purchased in advance and will only be allowed in on presentation of a valid entry ticket for TOTB on the Sunday.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So annoyingly it looks as though camping needs to be sorted in advance and to secure the space we need to book it fairly soon - no idea where they plan to have tents etc or what facilities they will get in though - questions will asked.

What are people's thoughts on the club display area - how much room should we push for based on previous meets like the Pod etc? It looks like someone is going to have to stump up the cash in advance for all of this and then hope people pay up.

(TOTB IV is 31st July at Elvington)

So nobody wants to camp and nobody is interested in showing their car on a stand?

I dont think I'll be camping, but if the cars not competing I'll display it for the day. :)

Right so we need some IMOC pennies? If people want to camp in an IMOC area post now - as for the display area we can stump up for 20 cars as I still hold a little IMOC money from last years JAE. I am going to be staying in the area overnight - either I camp in an IMOC area or find a local guest house!

Views would be good.

Just thinking.

Out of interest, the display area - where's that going to be?

There's no room between the handling course and drag strip historically and if its over on the other runway (traditionally called - The Car Park) then people wont be able to see the action :?

I think its a good idea to have a club area - some of day is a bit slow perhaps and it gives people something else to do.

Maybe I'm a little skeptical, but it sound like a way the organisers will be making an extra £1 per car, just so the same make of cars can park together lol :)

I agree when the day is a little slow its good to walk round the car park, thats what I did at TOTB 2.

Interesting little aerial map there tho! So they plan on a grandstand in the middle of the handling course, that'll give some good views of the actual corners which'll be good. :)

If we can get organised enough on the way in there is no reason why a club area can't be created in the main carpark - as you've said it's nice to have a wander up there later in the day as it's usually packed with nice stuff as well as loads of crap to laugh at.

The introduction of the grandstands is long overdue - should be a good one. You saw the map here first, I'm too good to you lot ;)

Update on camping, bad news I'm afraid :(

"it has had to be withdrawn after complaints from local residents and after a ruling by the local council"

There are a lot of local sites in the area and plenty of B&Bs etc - I'm sure we can do something on the night before the event or just after....

Hi Toni,

Does this still apply?

It's at the stage where they want some cash now - would be nice to have a dedicated stand with 20 prime examples on and a bit of merchandise etc... flyers to get more members and all that jazz...

If the cash has gone I'll front it and try to claim it back from those who want to display :)

Camping not happening as above but we should have a 30 car club parking area as well as the massive normal car park where we can try and get all the MR2s in one place:

Michael, I'm probably popping along to the event. 31 July isn't it? 1 day only?

Won't be entering the 2 in either comp and not worth having it in the show and shine due to a cracked front bumper.

If I can help in anyway let me know.

Excellent news, it's a good day out - this year promises to be the best yet, far better organisation (from them not me!) and better viewing.

Sunday 31st is the date and yes it's a one day event, there is a practice day on the 3rd of July so people can see what they are up against ;)

There isn't usually much you need to do but it's handy to have a few people around just in case :)
