Looking to buy something along the lines of ToyoR888's - basically street legal cut slicks in the following sizes:
215/40/17
245/40/17
The 245's are not too much bother - but the 215's with a side profile of 40 is proving a pain..
for the 215's looking like AVON ZZR's:
but at £182.50 per tyre it's a bit on the high end...
also if i want same make and model on the rear, I need to go for 255/40's.. again at £210 per tyre
do people in the know recommend against using different make and model tyres front compared to rear ?
I have yet to find a decent make in these sizes (215/40 & 245/40)
anyone help on either of these points ? [-o<

Re: High End / Motorsport tyres
Basically want to know if it's ok to have the AVON's on front and have Yoko A048-R on rears.
^^^ ............. ^^^
Rears............ Fronts
they are the only tyres I have found for front and rear in my sizes that appear "decent"
(215/40 245/40 on 17's)

yeah just had a look for trackday tyres in that size, and looks like they're pretty hard to find. good luck with your search bud.

Kumho V70A's are available in
205/40x17 and 245/40x17 and 235/40x17
Available in 3 compounds, and I have a trackday tyre test where they beat R888's and A048R's.

PS R888's are available in 205/40x17 too.

Re: High End / Motorsport tyres
You just wont find 215x40x17 in track tyres.
Personally for a tubby with relatively stock suspension I would be running 205x40x17 front and 235x40x17 rear.
I used Kumho V70a's at bruntingthorpe and Donington and they are pretty good, although they do overheat quite quickly when pushed hard. The R888's are much more progressive but have less outright grip.
Neither work well on the road and are INCREDIBLY sensitive to track temperature and moisture.
Neil.

I did try and help...
ZZR's dont actually seem to be available for purchase, no matter what the websites say, this has been an issue for the last 12 months. I tried to buy some from Camskill last March and September and they couldnt source any.
The reason I said "relatively" stock suspension was because the only way you can run these kind of tyres is to either run a smaller or wider front width, 205x40, 225x45 or 235x40, since the 225x45 and 235x40 seem difficult to fit under stock suspension (and most coilovers!) you are stuck going smaller, unless you have custom build your front suspension especially to take the wider front wheel or you have especially narrow coilovers (I *think* Tein are the only ones that help at all in this regard, and even then its marginal if a 235x40 will run at the correct camber without hitting the strut).

Re: High End / Motorsport tyres
Frank, does your car ever see the track? I'd have thought a good road tyre like the s03 would be faster day to day as trackdays tyres hate poor surfaces, wet, being cold etc. Just a thought but more rubber down doesn't always mean faster.

In my opinion the difference you'll find between a set of tr1's and a high end road tyre like the s03 or pilot sport will be very noticable

Re: High End / Motorsport tyres
mytyres sells the s03, not sure if they're in your sizes. The s01 and 02 are also a good option (i run s02's and am always impressed).
Seems to be very hard to find someone that sells Pilot sports online these days so you might have to call a local fitter to prices on those.

Re: High End / Motorsport tyres
Must admit I'd personally prefer the same make of tyre all round
Kind of interested which way you go, I do not enjoy the T1-S Toyos at all. Was thinking of the A048s, but have heard good things about the Yoko Neova?
I've got 235/40/17s on the front of the TRD and 255/40/17s on the rear with Tein btw, though the offset of the wheels are quite different to the 'normal' MR2s.

Re: High End / Motorsport tyres
They do melt on track. But I find them good for day to day driving (wet and dry).
I like the F1s much better than the Toyos tbh.

Re: High End / Motorsport tyres
Advan sports would be a good choice.
I've been trying the yoko S-Drives (a fiver cheaper per tyre than the advan sports) and they do seem very good so far.
Advan sports:
S-Drives:
Site:

Price wise they aren't too bad the S-Drives in 225/45/17s came in at £120 each.
I would rate the S-Drive (from my experience) as above F1s/SO3s.
