Spotted - Cyprus (MK1, MK2 & MK3s a-plenty)

Seen another MR2 when you were out and about? Find out if it was another IMOCer here.

Spotted - Cyprus (MK1, MK2 & MK3s a-plenty)

Post by michael »

First one I spotted was a silver MK1 with BBS style alloys - driven by an 'older' lady in Paphos / Pafos.

Then loads of MK3s available to hire and various just plodding around at the silly slow speed limits....

Modded yellow MK2 in Limassol, near the city centre, kitted, alloys, stickers etc.

Finally a silver 355 'replica' in Protaras - I bagged a photo of this but will need to wait until I get home to upload anything.

Didn't we have a couple of MR2 owning Cypriots on the old forum / Yahoo a while ago??

Still no Supras... lots and lots of Integras and fake EVO Lancers

From when i went to ayia napa last year, certainly seems the weapon of choice for most young lads out there.

Saw a really nice kitted red turbo there too but didn't get a snap of it.

Know what you mean about the MK3! I was in Protaras this year and saw loads of MK3s for rent. Saw no MK2's but loads of modded Hondas and a heavily modified Yellow Celica! =P~

A few suicidal overtaking manouvres too down the main strip!

Seems to be 'Cruise Christmas' here now, the seafront is currently packed out with modded cars - mainly the usual Integra, Civic, MX5, EVO and Scooby lot but I've seen a few Skylines and a lovely S14 in yellow on the way to the cafe. Spotted another MK2 earlier today, red - managed to get a pic but was too busy checking I caught it to see if it was NA or Turbo

There are loads of imports around and heaps of cars I've only over seen on the 'net or in Gran Turismo (Toyota Chasers for example)

Spotted a Supra yesterday too, nasty looking silver one with yellowed headlights and no spoiler, driver was shocked to get a club card, I doubt he'll join the MKIV forum....

This was my fourth trip to Cyprus but the first stay in Paphos - it's 5 years since I was last there and sadly the onslaught of tourism seems to have really taken the shine off the place now. The remote villages are still as nice as ever, the people friendly etc but the towns are a mass of corporate begging, adverts for property everywhere in a bid to lure people to clutter up the hills with more generic block villas, touts, all day english breakfast, pubs with English names and so on... I go on holiday to escape most of that absorb the culture of the place, without going out of your way to get a taste of Cyprus you might as well go to the seaside here and wear a coat to keep warm.

It's not what it used to be but it's still a nice break from the UK in many respects - they just don't seem to value the country as much as they should. They need to restrict the influx of housing, protect the history by not building near it, limit the number of hotels etc... it's too late now though I fear, another Benidorm in 10 years time....

LOL - I went to Skiathos earlier in the year and that was fantastic, still relatively unspoilt, still very Greek, tiny island, plenty of culture and no "18-30" scene to speak of but still some fantastic nights out to be had in a more mature way... jeez I sound like my Dad!

I fancy Santorini next but might go to San Francisco / Santa Cruz again as that was a total chillout experience.... Cyprus is off the list of places to go back to though unfortunately, unless someone else is paying of course ;)

Go to vietnam is you want culture ! .... bring a rusty blunt saw to saw your head off when you get there !!

I've never been to such a manic / poor place on earth !! its amazing how they live in such a cluttered place.

Cyprus sounds good if I was still in that holding hands situation .. I'll keep that in mind for the next one I lure !

If you ever want a shopping trip... try singapore out... electronics cheapest in the far east... everything is negotiable out there.. and what a place.... clothes shopping.... better than london... because its warm and not full of rude people.... cleaniness is unbelieveable - people have loads of respect for each other, theres no council estates, every car belonging to singapore citizen is under 7 years old !! Sadly.. its influxed by brand new Hondas / Lexus' and mercedes .... not much changed since I was last there 20 years ago !!

Only modding scene seems to be all those stupid little japanese cars.. suzukis / honda jazz and malaysian crap.
