Dump valves for rev2 turbo????

Post by splintermcinnes »

Can any of you out there help me out? i think i remember reading somewhere on this site that someone changed the original dump valve for an aftermarket one, which in turn gave problems with the turbo. has any one else suffered this?

which is best to go for dump to atmosphere of recirc type?

Any one with any good recommendations?

thanks Matt

Recirc type is always the best , but.. some have got dump to atmos
and have had no problems whatsoever....

problems include

rough idling
Stalling
Sudden Jerk when changing gear hard

If you want an atmos, best ones are the HKS or BLITZ
if you read the affliate someone is selling hybrid bovs
whereby it dump's and recirc's

Stock bov is best.

Stick to the stock recirc bov, its the best there is, if you must have an atmospheric bov then the HKS SSQ does the job perfectly.

Steer clear of single piston valves, or you'll get a healthy garage repair bill.

still a bit confused, its not like they will cause enough problems to cause damage to the engine.

Any bov that lifts on idle is sh*t anyway, also the car won't even run full stop.

You want something with good quailty that stays closed at all times until you lift off, like the HKS or Blitz for example.

the apexi and greddy do the same, i went into a lot of research and been trying to stock all the BOV's laterly that will be ok on the mr2, also the R2D2 bov. got some of those coming soon. never heard them before :)

so realy its a bit hit and miss!!i Know it sounds cheesy but i love the sound of a good dump valve, and the standard one just dont cut it.

Tim - i might give you a ring shortly, see what you think.

the car in question used to be darrels old one.

ah ok buddy, yeah i know it well :)

Yes if you've got a good BOV you won't have any idle problems at all, you will of course run rich when it vents but thats only off throttle. The BOV should be sealed shut when not lifting off from boost.

Just give me a shout, [email protected]
