[Mk2] [Turbo] 205/45/17's on an 8J rim?

Post by Kupton83 »

Am looking at buying a new set of alloys but the trouble I just shod my current 17" 7J's with new rubber.

I have 205's on the front and 235's on the rear. The wheels I'm looking at are 8J front & 9J rear.

Do you think a 205 will fit on an 8j rim or is it too much of a stretch? I think the 235 rears will be fine on a 9J and are 50 profile.

Any help would be great!

235/50R17 rear? Way too high profile for the rear.

What profile for the 205?

I have 215/40 17's on my fronts which are 8" width.
In my opinion the stretch is too much.
It leaves the edge of the rim very exposed.
I would say you need 7" front and 8" rear
If you go without staggered widths 7" would be better.
All imho

Plenty of examples here:

https://tyrestretch.com/8.0-205-40-R17/

It's not too silly, but it's too much for me.

235/40R17 or 245/40R17 would be a better size for the rear.

Ok thanks chaps not what I wanted to here but think you're right not worth risking it!

I will have to take the hit on selling these alloys as the new ones I've found are super advans and don't come along very often.

I believe they are RS2's been after a set for ages just typical to find some decent ones right after buying new tyres for the 7J's I've got currently.

Legit RSII's are hard to come by! Good luck!

When you said Super Advan I thought you meant the 3 spoke ones, I have two sets at the moment :)

Ok now I'm probably wrong again as it is the 3 spoke ones I'm after so maybe not RS2's!! I'll post a pic link this evening when I'm home I could be interested for the right price....

Now that's some useful information, thanks!

They are the SA3R's.

Which ones have you got and are they for sale??

I have two sets of SA3 splits. Neither are formally for sale, but anything can be for the right money

16x7 / 16x8, both around ET35:

17x7.5 / 17x8, both ET31:

There was a set of staggered 16inch SA3R's on ebay last week for a pretty decent price, looks like they sold though.

I'm interested, ideally in the 17's. Are they available with/without tyres?

Where abouts are you regarding collection?

Pretty much the other side of the country - Colchester Essex.

If you're after 17's have a look at this set:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322039044217? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Much closer to you.

Tyres are too big for an MR2 so would need replacing. They are a 2 piece split, so easy enough to remove the face to colour to taste, just needs a fair bit of patience!

Ok nice one I will see how these sa3R's go as prefer them over splits but at least I know I can't use the tyres from my old ones ;(

What are the widest rear tyres you can fit to an mr2 with a et35 offset out if interest?

Depending on condition obviously but seem to range between the £500-£900 range depending on tyres.

Could be interested in yours....in which case about £50/£100 😬
