Pistons

Post by parker455 »

I used Tim @ xxxx to get my CP pistons, he supplied them for around £440. Best price I could find, shame my builder messed up the ring gaps..

Why it won't let me say the name of xxxx I don't know..

Because the club's very petty when it comes to banned traders etc. We all know who you mean though :thumleft:

£480 is still a great price mate. Give Tim a phone and see, GTSchris was always up for a bit of negotiating, I'm sure Tim would be as well!

Will Will do.

So the question here is - stick with the 8.5 he has, or ask if he can get custom ones at 8.3 or ??????

In my own opinion the ones he has in stock are perfectly fine. I cannot make this decision for you though. Do a bit of googling and make up your own mind. As already mentioned octane ratings aren't that of 20 years ago :)

That's ridiculous lol. He's been quality to deal with with me.

£480 still a good price, I'd go for 86.5mm ones to get a proper bore and good ring clearance. Just make sure the person building knows what they're doing please!

How does piston diameter effect ring clearance? Are you talking about end gaps? In which case you set that yourself when you fit the rings, regardless of bore size.

IMO you're better off going as small as possible with these blocks to try and preserve the strength in the cylinder walls, so if you can stay at 86.0 with a re-hone, then that is the best plan.

Absolutely, I got away with just a hone on mine. The less you can take off the bores the better. You'll need to measure the bores before ordering pistons. Keep that in mind :thumleft:

That's a great price.
Noob question, say you want to use ACL bearing sets. Would you check the main/rod journals and if they are within spec order bearing sets?

Then measure clearance using plastigauge- I don't have precise measuring tools.

I'm just a little confused how you would measure this before ordering. :thumleft:
