Toyota MR2 GT Turbo T-Bar Rev 3 - Black

Post by phoenix70 »

Toyota MR2 GT Turbo T-Bar Rev 3 - Black
It’s the GT Spec T-Bar which includes leather / alcantara seats and door cards, steering fog lights and retractable wing mirrors.
It was imported in 2008 and has had 2 UK owners since then (I’ve owned it for the last three years). The car hasn’t been played with so it is a reliable car, in my ownership I’ve replaced the battery and change the front shocks and drop link, I’ve had the wheels powder coated black. The tyres are Falken’s all round, with the rears been almost new, but the front are getting low. I’ve replaced the speedo, so the current gauge read 99,000 miles, but the car has done less than that (the old speedo had 134,000km when I removed it and I’ve put about 4000 miles onto the new one which read 95,000 when I installed), it’s fitted with a stef derner clamping delimeter.
The interior is in good condition with no rips in the leather seats. A new stereo and front speakers have been fitted and the stock boost gauge has been replaced with a Prosport gauge instead. The air conditioning still works and cools the car nicely in the summer. The engine pulls well and boost fine and the gearbox is good with no crunching.
It has a set of side skirts on it, but that is the only modification to the exterior (other than the black wheels)
Just had it in for it's MOT and it just failed on the handbrake which I will fix, so it will have a fresh MOT

I’m looking for in the region of £2500.

Location: Fife, Scotland

Any questions, just ask

PS. Ignore the Tein Stickers, the suspension is stock)

I went to go view this Rev3 turbo. The bodywork on this car is great for age, no rust issues, clean interior and its completely stock. I had the chance to start the car from cold which was a good thing however I noticed the engine sounded a little funny. I waited for the car to warm up and noticed the sound was still there. I then took it for a short test drive, I didn't notice anything unusual with the engine sound or power. However when I returned to the owners house and checked the engine again, the noise seemed worse than before. I was convinced the engine was knocking and walked away.
I did take a couple of videos which I posted up the TMOC page on facebook for other opinions, majority of the replies said it was bottom end knocking.

The owner did get back to me a few days later to let me know his mechanic had a look and he believes it to be a worn clutch release bearing.

I do have a much clearer video on TMOC facebook page if that helps.

Only issues I found was that the car doesn't really have much history, the brakes judder and obviously the engine noise.

I traveled a total of 10hrs and drove 520miles for this car. I hope my post and videos help any other potential buyers.

Again good luck with the sale.

Yes, the oil level was fine. However it was last changed sometime last year.
