I've noticed advertised prices for Rev3+ turbos have increased as they become rarer but whether they are being sold and what price they are actually being sold for is more difficult to know.

1500 to 2000 for a rev1/2 ... 3000 to 3500+ for a rev 3 .. but yeah there's always haggling O:)

Plus these cars are getting rarer 8-[ supply and demand :thumleft:

Really good ones seem to be going up in price but the market seems very slow. The sad fact is mr2's aren't "cool" anymore and the scene is very small with limited new interest (all my opinion obviously) if you look at the prices people will/do pay for s body nissans for example - 3k for a rotten s13, 5k+ for an average s14 with an mot, 6k+ for a PS13, 9k for a tidy S15. All because they're cool, the scene is huge and there's loads of fresh interest & exciting builds - something the mr2 scene (with a few very good exceptions) is severely lacking.

Good cars will always fetch good money but if you look at the stock importers have (I.e the 5k+ fresh imports) they tend to hang around for ages. Saying that, I paid top money for mine and don't regret it but I know I'd never get it back if I sold it.

Just my 2p...

Yeah MR2's aren't drifters and have missed out on the scene.

I have an agreed insured value of £7000 on my 94 turbo.

Wouldn't sell it for less than £6k, even though that's a fraction of what it cost to build. :pale:

all it would take is a few people with vision willing to push the boundaries and stray from the "usual" recipie of mr2 builds to get other people interested in them though

I guarantee if there were more/some builds like this in the UK, more people would get interested in them and the prices would shift

I paid three grand for a Rev 3 T-bar that was a little bit tatty and had a couple of standard niggles to sort out. I think in reality your initial capital outlay on 20-year-old £3000 car is going to be around £4000 to £5000 when you factor in that there will always be things to do. I dunno. If I was able to get a clean tintop from Japan to drive away for £5000 all in I'd consider that a hell of a bargain still. I have seen some very nice Rev 3s come up in the UK in recent months and it got me thinking as really I couldn't give a stuff about having a T-bar - in the end it just means inevitable crappy leaks, is a LOT more susceptible to the crappy old tinworm, and is heavier and floppier than a proper coupe. I'm talking myself into swapping but then I'm in that trap of having invested a certain amount in my current car that to just drop it now would seem silly. Eh. I do love the old girl really.

I'm really surprised that there aren't more SW20s in the higher levels of time attack. I think to a certain extent people want a more forgiving chassis for time attack and these babies will bite you HARD when you get it wrong :\

Iv seen a couple of standard clean REV3's for £3.5K+

Some fresh imports REV4+ £6K+

Even in the last 2 years id say an increase averagely of 30% on most of the decent ones for sale.

I paid £4.5K for mine 2 year ago and if it was in the exact same condition as when I bought it id see it around £5.5 - £6K now - But its totally changed engine wise over the last year and had £££££'s spent etc.

I think there is still a large amount of interest in MR2's because you don't see them on the road that much etc.. But people choose the easy JDM cars like Rob said S13/14/15 - EVO's / Impreza's / and so forth - When I have spoken to other JDM drivers a few have seen the MR2's as a specialist type car & group probably the same way I see the RX7's - Basically you buy one because you really really want one and not just to say yes iv got a JDM car.

I see the prices only going up as not many importing companies are bringing MR2's in under their own choice but only on customer order basis which is very small in the UK.

A future investment for a clean example id say...

Exactly right :thumleft: .. theres some nice ones about but you need to pay to get your hands on one .

If they were a drift scene car it would raise the price .

I don't think it's specifically a drifting thing (although it is a big part of it) but (thankfully) the whole uk modified car "scene" has moved on from garish bodykits, led's and sound systems and lots/most people are actually into driving their cars properly and building fast street and track focused (be it grip or drift) cars now which doesn't seem to have massively filtered down into the mr2 side of things - obviously there are people that do, and there are some really impressive big power builds but the show scene and the occasional blast down the 1/4 is still a big part of it

maybe that sounds a lot more negative than I intend it to?

Three Turbos in the TSS this year, including mine, two of which came 2nd and 3rd last time out overall.
These cars are out there, they are just not in the scene.

Also think prices have bottomed out now, and will only go up from now on.

Cheers,

John

They values bottomed out so it's just rebounding to where it should be not really appreciating.

I think they are going up steadily.
I remember back in 2009 I paid £1200 for a pretty much mint REV2 , I doubt I would find the same car now for less than 2500 .

Having said that I bought a REV1 last week for £450 so there are still some bargains to be had .

In a way i'm glad mr2's aren't part of the whole 'jdm yo' 'drift scene' thing, at least not to a massive extent in the UK. They are quite niche. But that means that when you see one 'in the wild', the odds are good that they are proper mr2 enthusiasts.

That said, most of my friends into cars love seeing mine, they just need the extra seats.

On the subject of values, I sold my solid but scruffy rev 2 turbo for £2000 in March which I thought was very reasonable, but it deserved more, being a JDM tintop with Recaros and a few other goodies.

I paid £1300 for it a year earlier.

Spotting MR2 `in the wild` Just had an image of David Attenborough skulking through the trees.. `Here we have.. A truly rare sight to behold.. A standard MR2 Rev 5 Turbo.. Imported.. From Japan.. It`s sleek lines help it to glide effortlessly.. Down the road..`
