Who has 17" wheels?.. What tyre size?

Ive got a set of spare vortex wheels from my GT4 with almost new tyres.
I need new tyres all round for the mr2 and decent wheels thought i could put the vortex wheels to good use as they were only used for around 100miles.

They are multi stud 5x100 & 5x114.3 so they fit the mr2,
They are 17x7.5j all round et42 with 225/45/17 all round.

My issue is the rears fit and i will space them out but the fronts rub the bottom strut cap, ive got standard shocks and springs, just looking for a tyre profile that will definitely not rub the strut If anyone has the answer?
ie 205/40/17, 205/35/17, 215/40/17, 215/35/17...

Fronts will need spacers, as you've found to clear, and for flushness. So will the rears to sit flush.

Tyres:

215/40/17 front
235/40/17 rear

The rears are fine but id space them to sit closer to flush, the fronts dont look like they will need spacers at all as they sit almost flush already and dont catch on the inside so was just really needing the profile. Are you thinking space the front so the tyres dont catch the arches on turn in/out?
And 215/40 will definitely fit?
They look like they would be close but i like the filled arch look
The rears i will be keeping as 225/45/17 as they are 100miles old and will already have 1 pair to get rid of from the fronts

Haven't fully fitted our set but Jess will be running 17x8 and 17x9 with 215/45/17 offsets are lower than yours however (can't remeber exactly) so hopefully we shouldn't have any problems! We shall find out tomorrow lol!

Ive done a fair bit of research and found that 215/40 just clears, 45 profile on 17s are never going to work as i measured at least 50mm spacers would be required which would obviously protrude the arch big time so only way is lower profile
