[Mk2] [Turbo] Mr2 code 34 over boosting any idears

Post by cooper514 »

Hey guys as it say I have a over boosting problem I've recently done a na to turbo conversion and rebuilt the engine I ve not got a sticking actuator but was wondering if the timing was slightly out if it would cause lack of power and overboost pretty sure I've not got any air leaks but I'll double check any ideas welcome and will be tried to get this beast back on the road

Actator is definitely opening fully? Can sometimes only open partially due to aftermarket downpipe or even downpipe gasket. Is it a stock turbo?

The auctator moves unsure on how far it opens might take the down pipe off just to make sure it's not hitting but yes it's just a standard turbo the car just feels like has no power at all [/img]

Are you actually overboosting, or just getting code 34?

So right now, you don't actually know if you're overboosting or not.

Before wasting any more time, get a boost gauge fitted and check.

Hey guys boost gauge fitted hit fuel cut went to 15-16 psi does that mean I have a actuator problem / maybe hitting on the aftermarket down pipe ?? Cheers James

rev3+ fuel cut is just over 18psi so if you're only hitting 16 then either the gauge is wrong or something else is causing your problem :(

Its a rev 2 turbo engine in the na shell pretty sure fuel cut is lower on them round the 15-16 psi mark

Removed down pipe to see if it's catching and fileda bit off fit it all back together still getting same problem the actuator is moving also at a stand still when revving it up should the car be building boost ???

The engine won't build boost unless it's under load.

When I rev it up the boost gauge reads above 0 so 7 psi ect from what I remember it never used to would this be from the actuator ??

The actuator is driven by pressure in the manifold. Since pressure in the manifold is virtually atmospheric when simply revving the engine stationary, you can't possibly be making 7psi.

I've put a tee in for the boost gauge in the fuel pressure regulator as well as the map sensor and both reading came up to 10psi of boost stationary until the wastegate opens any idears why I have this I was pretty sure like you said that the car has to be under load driven to build boost cheers James

You can't be building 10psi stationary. Impossible.

What are you using to measure boost?

Just a normal boost gauge that was on that engine in the old turbo body that's why it's confusing me it shouldn't be doing it but when I press the throttle the boost goes up to 10 psi and wastegate opens and it drops down is there any way it could be miss wired or the tvis could cause this problem it's just on the standard Ecu for the car only difference that the engine has is I replaced the head gasket and clutch

what does the boost gauge read when the engine isn't running?

The car is running and revved up at stand still which makes boost when the car is turned off reads zero and when idling reads negative 30 psi
