New Person, MK2 MR2, Few Questions

Post by Galviniser »

Hello, Im Chris

I've got hold of an MR2. I was never really an MR2 person, I also own a '74 Ford Capri.

Its pretty shot, its done 160k. Its green, now with a red bumper. I have 3 sets of wheels, the paint job is embarrassing. It has a leak somewhere on the roof I suspect on the T-Bar. The oil pressure light is on, I was told its the sensor, its been drove with the light on for a few hundred miles, I have done about 1 mile in it. The droplinks have been cut in half because the previous guy couldn't get them off to fit the suspension that is worth more than the car (HSD Mono Pro S). The leather interior is a little worn, the radio is bad. Its a 1994 model Revision 3 I think?

But, other than that its quite nice, i like the T-Bar idea and its looks cool.

I just want to know a few things:
-How do I know what engine I have?
-Where is the oil pressure switch?
-Does anyone have a decent manual or can advise a decent manual?

Its not a turbo model.

Id upload pictures but I don't know how.

Also I'm pretty handy, I'm an Engineer.

1994 will most likely be a rev 3. Is it a one piece spoiler?
The engine is the 3SGE.
If it helps the colour code is 6M1 and is known as either Goodwood Green or Dark Emerald Pearl.

As has been said if it's a '94 model it should be a rev3, but the only way to be absolutely certain about what you have is to check the VIN number using the following link:
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html

Rather than using the vin number from your log book, if you open the Frunk (the "boot" at the front of the car) you should find a plate attached to the inside of the front wall of the compartment which should give the vin number which will start with something like sw20-00xxxxxxx.

If you enter that using the link above it will tell you the year, model, engine gearbox, market, original body colour.

Could go to Toyota dealer with SW20*****No. also model No, they will tell of build details extra's etc then ask them for a copy.
The seatbelt labels always give year of manufacture assuming they are originals which will not be a million miles away from vehicle build manufacture.

Good Luck.

Thank you, well my car is a rev 3.

I've just changed all the drop links so they are good now. The drivers side sill is rotten, but that's the worst of the rust.

Are sills ready available? And I take it they are welded on?

I also only have one key...and its not the master, so I can only open the boot from the inside. I also sucked all the water out of the footwells with an aqua vac.

I take it I get a spare master key from Toyota?

Now I can also order a new oil pressure sensor knowing the engine.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated

You can buy sill replacement panels, but there not full sills, just sections you can weld in to replace the worst affected section.

With regards to the water leak, there are numerous threads on here detailing different methods of fixing a leak depending on budget etc.

Not sure on a master key from dealer, worth a shot though. And it's worth getting to know the parts guy in your dealer, can help out a lot.

As for manuals, they have never really made a Haynes type like they did for the mk1 but you can find a cd version on ebay for not very much pence :thumleft:

As for the roof leak, is there any chance the gutters could be blocked?

A friend got a spare master key from Toyota years ago.

Required to produce car registration doc, photo Id and proof of address.
They also need car model code and chassis number (both on data plate visible in the front boot looking towards the front of the car) to get the right key and fob if it has remote central locking.
