efficient grip

lol

Unless technology has moved into an area I'm unfamiliar with tyres trade off grip for efficiency, i.e. by reducing the rolling friction you reduce fuel consumption, this is at the expense of grip(i.e. friction)

A rated for Wet grip should translate into decent grip

Every wet grip a-rated tyre I've driven on has been decent in the wet

I had my eye on the newer Hankook K120 Evo2 tyre.

Previous incarnations of the tyre have been very positive, and this seems to be trending the same way. I've always been a fan of Hankook, and the price is definitely appealing.

16" tyre availability in MR2 sizes is very limited. It was a choice for me of Kumho KU31 in 205/45 & 225/45 or Rainsport 3 in 205/50 & 225/50.

I went for the Rainsport 3's in the end. Grip seems fine although not tested them out in the rain or on a spirited drive yet as still scrubbing them in.

Obviously you need to be aware of potential rubbing and fitment if going for a slightly higher profile than stock. My offset is 35 and I don't have any issues with this size tyre.

Certainly fill the arches up nicely with the 30mm lowering springs  .

I have KU31's all round on mine.

They are decent for the price.

Not quite as grippy in the dry as the T1R's that were on there before, but they do seem to perform better in the wet.

Plenty enough grip to have confidence on a B road blast, which is what matters for me!

My experience with Rainsports is limited to smaller, slower cars than the MR2, but I loved them.

They do wear pretty quickly, some folk hate the relatively soft sidewalls (although that tends to make them better on lowered, firmly damped cars), but for grip, wet and dry, they were outstanding.

Different speed rating.

Cheaper one is V. Other one is Y. V is up to 149MPH, Y is up to 186MPH.

V will be fine for an MR2. No harm in getting the Y rated ones, I guess they'll be a bit tougher to be able to handle a higher maximum speed?

I think V was the minimum for a MK2. RS3 Rears only available in a Y for the 225/50 so I just kept the same.

They do get very good reviews. Looking at your garage seems you have the same wheels as me, Enkei RP01. Should be fine.
