What is the little metal tab thing on the window frame?

Post by Scott Barton »

In all my years of MR2 ownership I have never worked out what the little tab thing is 3/4 way up the front window trim?
The drivers side has actually fallen off, but the passenger side is still there.
Any ideas?
You can see it top left of the picture below.
