[Mk2] [NA] 1st gear is slow

Post by nordland071285 »

Hi All,
I just bought a NA Mk2 and at first I was really impressed with throttle response..
its quick in 1st to move away...but when I get to the higher revs in 1st gear (5-7k), it just doesn't move...
lots of noise, but very little speed increase
so much, that i think my old fiesta would outrun it.. There's certainly no feeling of being pinned in the seat

then I put it into 2nd and it soars.. And feels really good

is that normal? My mate said it might just be geared with short first gear for gt

Does the acis work ok? Get the note change and harder pull from 5k

Hi nordland071285

If its really loud past 5000rpm it is most likely the ACIS as mrturbotom said. Because when ACIS is working it actually reduces induction roar. And trust me, you certainly shouldn't need to change into 2nd gear that early.

What tom was saying is that the engine sound should change after around 5000rpm and become a higher pitch, if it's working you will feel a power increase when the ACIS kicks in (and a bit of seat pinning too), it's also certainly not the gearing unless you have a different gearbox from every other NA mk2

And here is my simple way of explaining if ACIS is working, it should sound like this: VrrrooooooooommmmmVVRRREEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Oh and your face should do this --> :D

edit: Oh and the guide in that link you posted is exactly what you need, good find :thumleft:
