Rear brakes squeaking when reversing
hiya. i have an F Reg mk1b and park the car on a level driveway overnight. in the morning when i release the handbrake and start reversing the rear brakes squeak. when i pull away forwards the squeaking stops. the car was serviced a few months ago and still lots of life in the discs and pads. any ideas what the problem could be and what needs doing?? thanks in advance
Re: Rear brakes squeaking when reversing
Mk1 rears (and most rear calipers with a hand break mech, even on much younger cars) have a habit of seazing solid.
Strip down the calipers and give them a good clean and bashing around. Some kind of high temperature grease on moving parts may also help.

many thanks for your help. do you think i can do it myself or should i get a proffesional to do it as not 100% sure how to remove and rebuild calipers. thanks again

Or just leave it parked in gear with the handbrake off.

If the rears have been sticking it will need new pads. Not a big job at all. Unsticking them will be the challenge.
If you're skilled enough to change pads you should easily be able to fix this.
Also check the hand brake cables, they can also cause issues.
