23rd Feb - Cold Weather Rolling Road

Post by _Al_ »

Hi everyone. I'm organising a session at Surrey Rolling Road, a fantastic set of well maintained rollers operated by a knowlegable and helpful bloke. I've been running the thread for this over on MR2OC but all are welcome so feel free to join us on the day.

http://www.surreyrollingroad.co.uk

The idea behind the cold weather RR is that the engines / turbo's are sucking on cold, dense air and the radiators / Intercoolers are all that bit more effective. To my mind that gives you the best chance of getting a good set of figures in relative safety.

By common consent this will be 23rd Feb once we've had time to install those Christmas modifications and put some cash back in the bank.

Prices last time started at £45 but IIRC the event was so popular we got it down a fair bit. There's a form to sign in advance but I'm hopeful I won't need to take payment in advance as the turnout was so good last year.

Names on the list if you're interested...

1) Al.
2) TLF
3) Olly.Dent
4) Dasher_GT
5) MR2TurboTom
6) Gavsdavs
7) PBee
8) Racer7
9) Willenium
10) ShrewdPhoenix (with Oddshoes riding shotgun)
11) Timmo

If we can push to 10 people then the price should be reduced but I'll confirm that with Charlie closer to the time. I've got 8 from MR2OC with a couple of maybes.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers
Alan

Price confirmed at £35 so long as we get over ten cars. Looking good at the moment but we managed 16 last year IIRC so I want to beat that!

Location is;

Surrey Rolling Road Ltd,
Unit 120
Longcross Studio
Chobham lane,
Surrey,
KT16 0EE

First cars will be let through around 10am.

There's a car park outside the security gate and we'll gather there. Only four cars at a time can go through but we can all walk through and watch the action.

Cost is £35, pay direct to SRR on the day. I'll bring a printed stash of the forms.

Chances are that it'll be cold so wrap up warm. There's no vending facilities on site so make sure you're fed when you arrive. Anyone can leave at any time so no worries if you want to go to the local greasy spoon during the day.

If anyone wants to just "drop by" on the day and decides that you'd like to run after all you just need to get a form from me and pay SRR. They'll fit you in somewhere.

Total time on site is likely to be around 5 hours if everyone shows up, last year a few of us stayed on afterward to watch other cars running.

Rolling Road Day Instructions and Disclaimer

Please read the following, and sign at the bottom to say you have read and
understand. Your car will NOT be allowed onto the site without the driver
having a signed form. This is regardless of whether you are running on the
Rolling Road or not.
I’m afraid our landlord is having serious problems with local residents blaming
the site for noise issues, it’s generally not the site, or SRR fault, but we get
blamed for it anyway. Due to this, it is extremely important that you read the
following and take it in! I cannot understate the importance of this!
1) The main road (CHOBHAM LANE) you use to enter the site is used by
bikers, we get blamed for the noise, Please Please do not race up and
down it, It’s a public road, but our landlords and us get the blame for
the noise it creates. When you leave our Site, please keep the noise
down for at least a mile or so.
2) Please stick to 10 mph on the site, people walking around, noise again
etc
3) Be polite to the Security Guards, at least wave at them without the
middle finger raised.
4) The Car parks, these are for parking cars, not doing donuts, it leaves
evidence and there is CCTV. Someone was killed on the site a couple
of years ago in a car, so you can understand the sensitivity surrounding
this.
5) We are lucky to have the premises we have (well, maybe not the loo,
but that’s in hand). The Landlord will kick us out if we cause them
trouble. I’m afraid in exchange for letting us continue to do Rolling
Road days the landlords have asked we do this form. This is due to the
fact that despite being asked not to, a car with a screamer pipe raced
up and down the road outside and straight past the Site manager!
Thanks for reading, have a nice day at SRR

I'm up for this. I took my N/A rev 3 to last year's rolling road day and found I had a bit of a flat spot. The MR2 had a new cat fitted for its MOT and we found that the honeycomb structure of the old cat had fallen apart and appeared to be restricting gas flow. It feels less hesitant now so will be interesting to see the result!

So, what's the plan for this then?

How much is it, do we just pay on the day, what time to arrive etc,

Cheers

Ok, meant to finalise this but I've been away and didn't get chance before I left.

Location is;

I'll bring a printed stash of the forms but for the sake of efficiency I'd prefer if you all PM me your email address and I'll send them over (alternatively I'll try and find the login details for my Dropbox account and let people download it from there).

Oh shame. We all went down the pub for lunch afterwards. And still would have been there at that time. Had a nice time chatting/catching up with you all.

I'm Andy by the way (lanky Chinese dude that came along in the black rev 3 tubby with Willennium)

Had a good day yesterday. Great to chat away with like minded petrolheads and find out that my N/A is up 8bhp on last year! There were quite a few people taking photos so is there any chance some could be posted up on here?

I'll post photos and results, just as soon as I find the results sheet!

Glad you guys had fun. I'll be sorting out another just as soon as I figure out where my missing 49bhp have gone!

For everyone's information, when I eventually find the sheet I'll be posting;

Username / spec / flywheel BHP / comments

So mine will read;

_Al_ / stock Rev 3 turbo / 206 BHP / Good boost & fuelling, suspect timing left retarded after engine overhaul.

If anyone doesn't want their results published (I've had one already for a very sensible reason) please let me know.

Looks like I'll be arranging another if these in the next two months due to popular demand.. :)

Will post pics from this one over the weekend. I hadn't realised how long it would take my poor laptop to deal with the SLR pictures.

Ooh, could definitely be tempted if you do another one. Will hopefully have the SC fully sorted by then :)

Looks like it'll be May at the earliest if we go for SRR. There are some other potentials, I'll keep the thread updated. :)
