Iridium spark plugs?

Post by Damian »

Hello.

I need to fit new spark plugs into my MR2. Went on the NGK website and there is an iridium option available.

Normal plugs look like they'll cost about £12 (BCPR6EY-11)
Iridium ones will cost about £27. (BCPR6EIX-11)

Prices off e-bay.

Is it worth the extra cost?

Thanks.

You don't have to change them as much, that's the bonus.

I run Denso platinum in my AE86 which are OEM spec. IIRC about £60 for a set. Last 60k miles or somesuch.

You can get a set of 4 x BCPR6EY-11 for under £7 including postage
BCPR6EIX-11 will cost you that each ! for what ? not changing them as often ? I'd rather have a new set of plugs every year, it's not as if they are hard to change :D

But, surely if you are going to keep the car a number of years, its a bonus not having to change plugs, plus they work out cheaper. :+:

6 of one half a dozen of t'other IMO. Although the last time I had to remove plugs that had been in an engine for a number of years I had to use a breaker bar.

I'd personally prefer to change the plugs at every service, in a 4AGE it's not exactly difficult and only a fiver a pack from Halfrauds with a trade card.
